"Good point." Giant peers down at me. "See ya around, Bad Ass."
He ducks out of the alley before I can say anything, leaving me alone with Andreas. I gulp and take a step backward, putting a little distance between me and my brother's enemy. I don't know much about the Silver Spoon MC or what happened between them, but I do know whatever they did has had the Vipers stomping around for months, swearing vengeance. And I know Andreas's company is at the heart of whatever happened.
I also know his father, Vincent Romano, was a foul human being. Before he died, he came here a few times to meet with my brother and Rooster. He acted like he was at risk of catching the plague the entire time, sneering down his nose at everyone and everything. I disliked him on sight.
"You know who I am, don't you?" Andreas asks me.
"Andreas Romano," I say and then bite my lip. Maybe I should have lied to him.
"It's all right," he says. "I'm not going to hurt you."
"You keep saying that."
"You keep looking at me like you're waiting for me to kidnap you."
"The thought crossed my mind."
Something like annoyance flashes in his eyes, his lips compressing into a hard line. "Not all MCs are like your brother's, Catriona."
"Says the man sneaking around his pawnshop," I snort.
"We were just doing a little recon," he says, holding up his hands. I remember what they felt like against me and my belly quivers again.
"Recon for what?"
"Are you one of their sweet butts, little one?"
"Am I one of their…?" I trail off, gaping at him. Oh, the nerve of this man! "First of all, buddy," I growl, poking him in the chest. "That's disgusting. You couldn't pay me enough to sleep with them. Second of all, you have a lot of nerve being all judgy and nosy when you're the one creeping around doing criminal things. Third of all, it's rude to answer a question with a question. And fourth…" I splutter, trying to think of something else to add, but all I can come up with is, "go kick rocks, you big jerk!"
"It was just a question, Catriona," he murmurs, a ghost of a smile touching his full lips. Of course he's amused. Jerk. "I didn't intend to offend you."
"Well, you did," I sniff. "You might be a manwhore, but that doesn't give you the right to assume that I'm a ladywhore."
"A manwhore? I'm definitely not that."
"Whatever. Can you please leave now?"
"No."
I blink at him. "No?"
"No."
"What do you mean no?"
"I'm not a manwhore, little one," he says, ignoring my question. "I don't sleep around."
Oh my gosh. He's insane.
"I don't care!" I cry, throwing my hands up in the air. "I just want you to leave before my brother gets here and finds you." I think I might be lying though. A tiny part of me is…relieved this man isn't like my brother and his friends. Which makes no sense to me. What does it matter if he sleeps around or not? Why should I care? He's nothing to me but a temporary inconvenience.
Liar, a little voice whispers.
I really wish it'd stop doing that.
"Did you know the Vipers attacked one of our women a couple months ago?" Andreas asks suddenly.
I blink rapidly, caught off guard by his question. "You're lying."
"Ask your brother if you don't believe me," Andreas says, sympathy in his voice, as if he feels badly for being the one to shatter my illusions about Connor. I don't have many left when it comes to my brother, but that one….
"Connor wouldn't do that."
"The Vipers roughed her up in her flower shop." Andreas leans back against the wall behind him, oblivious to how dirty the alley is or how much it's going to cost to get the dirt and grime off his suit. "He's the VP. Whether he was there in person or not, you know as well as I do that he was involved in the decision to carry out the attack on her."
I lick my lips, not sure if he's telling me the truth or if he's trying to manipulate me for some reason. Surely it's the latter. Connor may be a lot of things, but he's not that far gone. Not yet. There's still good inside him. I know it. He wouldn't order an attack on an innocent woman, would he?
Uncertainty creeps through me.
"Why are you telling me this?" I demand.
Andreas hesitates for a moment, almost like he isn't sure why he's telling me this himself, and then he curses. "Because I know what it's like to live with someone who does whatever the fuck they want regardless of who it hurts," he says. "You need to leave, little one. If you don't, he's going to drag you down with him. He's in trouble. Big trouble. You don't want to be collateral damage."
