“Seriously?”
She looked both surprised and amused as she lifted the two pieces of fabric out of the box. The top of the bikini was navy, while the bottoms were white with navy palm fronds printed on them.
“I think you’ll look hot as fuck in it, but you don’t have to wear it if you don’t want to.” I flashed her a smile. “I told you it’s cool if you want to go naked instead.”
She examined the suit closer, maybe checking the size. I’d had to guess, but I felt confident I’d gotten the right one. “Wouldn’t someone see?”
I’d meant it as a joke because I’d never thought she’d go for it. It was the middle of the day. But . . . “My dad and Cassidy are both at work.” I shifted in my seat, trying not to get too excited about the idea of us both wet and naked. “What do you say? You want to be a bad girl?”
“Would it be my final lesson?” she teased.
I grinned. “Well, technically, we still have two left.”
Her fingers trailed over the edges of the bikini in the box. “Let’s start with me wearing this, and we’ll see how it goes.”
I could work with that. It was the best of both worlds because it’d be fun to take the bikini off her, one piece at a time.
When we got to the house, she went into my bedroom to try on her gift, and I changed into my trunks in my bathroom. I figured it’d take her a few minutes to get ready, so I grabbed drinks and towels for us and stepped outside to drop them off on the table beneath the umbrella.
Fuck, the concrete deck was hot on the soles of my bare feet. I knew I should wait for her before getting in, but the sun was so intense, I marched down the steps and waded into the water at the shallow end of the pool.
There were trees lining the fence at one end of the pool, but the shade from them wouldn’t stretch over the water for at least another hour, and I only survived another minute in the heat before slipping beneath the surface. The water was cool, but it felt great.
I knelt in the shallow end, so only my head and the tops of my shoulders were above the water as I anxiously waited for her to appear. I was going to be bummed if the bikini didn’t fit.
My phone was on the tile by the steps, and it abruptly chirped with a text message.
Colin: Want to get together tonight and talk launch party? I’ll order pizza.
I felt both annoyance and guilt in equal parts. I’d tried to schedule a meeting with Colin earlier, but he’d gone out of town for the weekend to film something with Madison, and they’d only come back this morning.
Preston: I’ve got dinner plans but can swing by after.
Colin: A date? We can meet tomorrow if you want.
I slicked back my damp hair, but it didn’t help my unsettled feeling.
Preston: Not a date.
I wasn’t sure if I needed to elaborate, or what I’d even say, but the patio door thudded closed, pulling my attention away from my screen, and all thoughts drained from my mind.
Even though she was wearing pink heart-shaped sunglasses, the tint wasn’t enough. Sydney had one hand held up to her forehead to shield her eyes from the bright sunlight. Her other arm was folded over her stomach, as if she could hide her bare skin there. Her tits looked fantastic in the blue triangles of fabric, and her bikini bottoms sat low across her hips, so her forearm was doing fuck-all to block my view of her flat, sexy stomach.
The sight of her left me speechless.
But when she spied me in the pool, she frowned. “You got in already?”
“Sorry. I got hot.” I grabbed the railing and climbed the steps out of the water. “You look fucking amazing.”
Her arms dropped to her sides, and she looked up at me through her sunglasses like she wasn’t sure she believed me, but she wanted to. “Thank you.”
Her gaze drifted down to my bare chest, tracking a water droplet’s erratic path as it crawled down my abs. She followed it all the way to my wet swim trunks that clung to my legs, and the white elastic tied at the center of my waist. The navy shorts were dotted with tiny white sharks, and since it was a pair from last summer, the cord barely kept my trunks up in place.
She gazed at them like she hoped the cord would break and my shorts would slide off. It made me peer at the thin blue straps tied behind her neck and wish the knot would come undone.
Shit. Just like that, I was scorching hot again.
