He fucked August fast and hard, knowing August would need to feel it long after they finished, that he would want the reminder that he belonged to Clint and that no matter what happened, that wasn’t going to change.
The night moved around them, leaves rustling, bugs and toads singing, water trickling, as they showed each other how they felt with their bodies, as they added one more important piece of themselves to this place.
“Jesus, Clint. Make me feel it.”
Those words set loose a beast inside him. Clint dug his fingers into August’s hips, railed into him, fucked harder and faster, giving everything of himself to this man. Without either of them knowing it, August had always had all of Clint anyway.
He knew he wouldn’t last long, so he reached a hand around August’s body and fisted his cock, which was slick with precum and leftover saliva. He jerked August in unison with each of his thrusts until he felt the hot spurt of August’s load coat his hand, his already tight ass spasming around him.
It was all Clint needed to let his orgasm catch him. A tingle shot down his spine, went to his balls as the world around him blurred and he shot spurt after spurt inside August’s body.
They fell in a heap together, August clinging to him as if he thought Clint would disappear if he let go.
“I can’t lose you, Clint, not again, but I don’t know what I’ll do if Reese chooses to go.”
“You’re not gonna lose me. I can promise you that. We’re in this together now.” If August left and Clint was welcome, he would go with him.
“Thank you,” August replied softly, and they lay there together, holding each other until the sun came up.
CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE
August
Lewis was awake and drinking coffee when August got home. His ex watched him as August went into the kitchen, aware he likely smelled of sex, but he didn’t care.
“I’m not mad at you, Lewis. I understand missing Reese and wanting him close. I’m sad, and I’m worried… I know Reese is older, but what happens when you travel for work? What happens when being a father interrupts the rest of your life? You’ve never done as much of the day-to-day things like I have. I worry that it looks like fun and games to you, but when shit gets hard, you won’t want to deal, and then what? We tell Reese he has to come back to me? I’d take him back in a second, but think about how that will make him feel.” He’d basically said as much earlier, but it was important Lewis understood. August found it strange that a few months ago Lewis had no qualms about Reese moving to Briar County, and now suddenly he wanted him back.
“I won’t do that. I’m not an idiot, August. I know that being a parent is hard. He’s my son too.”
“You get so busy, you forget to call him,” August countered, nails digging into his palms while he tried to get his anger under control.
“I can do this. I want to do this. He’s my son too,” Lewis reiterated.
“He loves you so much, Lewis. I don’t think you realize how much.”
“And you don’t think I love him the same way?”
“I know you do.” There wasn’t much else August could say. Lewis did love Reese. “I’m gonna go take a shower. We’ll have breakfast and talk to him when he wakes up.”
Lewis nodded but watched August in a way that told him Lewis had more to say. “Did you see Clint last night?”
“Yes.” There was no reason to hide it.
“It’s good to see you thinking of yourself too. I don’t think…” He sighed. “I don’t think you did that as often as you should have when we were together. That’s partly my fault. I didn’t leave you the space to because I was so busy thinking about myself, but it’s good to see you do it now. I’m determined to do better by Reese.”
August was dumbfounded. He didn’t know how to respond to that, not because it wasn’t true, but because he was surprised Lewis had said it, that he saw those things and admitted them. But then he wondered if there could be some ulterior motive, if Lewis was saying more than he let on. “That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t have time for Reese…or that I don’t want him here with me.”
“I know. I wouldn’t think that. I know how much our son means to you, August. When I say I’m happy for you, I mean it. You’re a different man here from the one I knew. Happiness looks good on you.”
“Thank you.” It was strange how you could be angry with someone yet still care what they thought. It felt good to hear Lewis compliment him and be happy for him.
