“What? Of course not,” I said. “It was just… weird.”
“Was it kind of uncomfortable in the dream?”
“Definitely not,” I said. “But my dream self was so rude, or something. In real life I would never want to just use Jack in that way. If he sucked my dick, it would have to be so much more than that.”
Shawn was laughing again at my confusion. “You’d want to have a nice candle-lit blow job while soft piano music played in the background?”
“Oh, shut up,” I said, puffing out a laugh now, too. “I don’t know. I’d just want him to know I appreciated the blow job. In the dream he was really good at it, after all.”
“Sounds like quite a dream.”
“Maybe my brain just got confused because I kissed him last night,” I said.
“Kissed him?” he asked, and I swore I could tell he was rolling his eyes even though I couldn’t see him. “You kind of waited to tell me the most important point there, bro.”
“We were drunk. We were in a gay bar. Dudes were kissing dudes all over the place.”
“And you were kissing your best friend,” Shawn said.
“That’s not the point,” I said. “I still feel bad about the dream.”
“Well, I’m sure if he sucked your dick in real life, you’d be able to act more appreciative, or whatever it is you’re so worried about.” I could imagine Shawn silently laughing at me on the other end of the line. I was happy to have this kind of relationship with my older brothers now, after being worried for so many years that they would sternly judge me, or want nothing to do with me. I was still a little bit of a mess, clearly, but a mess that Shawn and Nathan loved and had fun with.
I cleared my throat, hearing the sound of Jack’s front door opening from down the hallway. He was back from his doughnut run.
“Not that it would ever happen. Obviously,” I told Shawn.
“Because you’re straight.”
“Right,” I said, furrowing my brow. “Anyway, what did you want me to call you about?”
“Wanted to confirm when you’re flying back out here,” Shawn said. “You’re visiting again before the move, right?”
“Yes. I’m flying out in two weeks, and I’ll be there for a week. Then the big move is happening about a month after that.”
Christ. Saying it out loud made my head spin. I’d always been a man of action, though, and once I’d decided to move back, I wanted to make it happen. But now, lying here in Jack’s comfy bed, moving back home in under two months felt insanely sudden and way too soon.
Jack peeked his head in the door, showing me a big pink box full of doughnuts as I talked on the phone. He pulled out one of them, taking a big, exaggerated bite of it, his face dropping into a blissful expression as he taunted me from the doorway. I struggled not to laugh as my brother chatted to me on the phone.
“I also wanted to go over which rocks you wanted for the front walkway on your new house. I’ll be able to have the path completed by the time you move out here, for sure. The limestone is what we have on hand, and it’s always a great option, but the fieldstone might be a little sturdier. I’ll send over a few photos after we talk.”
I talked with Shawn for a few more minutes before hanging up. Shawn and Nathan, my older brothers, were also both in construction, and general contractors just like Jack was. Jack mostly focused on home renovations and construction on local folks’ permanent homes, but Shawn and Nathan had started a house flipping business out in Colorado. When I moved out there, I was set to buy a house that the two of them were currently fixing up.
I rinsed off in a quick shower before heading out to the kitchen, where Jack had hot coffee ready for me.
“One of your brothers on the phone?” he asked, looking up from the big, spiral-bound book of appointments he kept for his general contracting. He had a pen in hand, and for some reason he looked so pure, sitting there at his little handmade oak dining room table.
Maybe he just looked “pure” because the last time I’d seen him, in my dream, he’d had my cock stuffed in his mouth. Either way, I felt a little weird about it.
“It was Shawn. Calling to talk about the house out in Colorado,” I said, grabbing a doughnut and going to sit next to him at the table.
Jack was silent for a beat, staring down at his book of appointments and scrawling notes under the section for next Wednesday. “Got yourself a good one out there, I hope?” he finally said.
“It’s a nice little craftsman,” I said in between bites of a chocolate peanut butter doughnut so delicious it should have been illegal.
