My two lovers nod.
“And that’s it exactly, sweetheart,” Tom says softly, bringing Emerald over to stand by me. “Sarah and Victoria are happy, even if their relationship had forbidden beginnings. Likewise, our relationship had a taboo start as well,” Tom acknowledges. “But that doesn’t mean we aren’t all in a great place now.”
“Agreed. Plus, you know we have an army of lawyers and the best PR team that money can buy,” Gabriel offers, stroking my arm gently. “We’ll knock those fuckers down if that’s what it takes. All four of us. Isn’t that right, Emerald?” he asks our baby daughter.
Which reminds me. I smile brilliantly at my boyfriends.
“Make that five,” I say gently. “There will be five of us to weather the storm together.” The two men look at me quizzically.
“Five?” Tom and Gabe ask simultaneously, their blue eyes startled. I smile broadly at both men, unable to contain my excitement any longer.
“Yes, because I’m pregnant!” I tell them, tears in my gaze and my voice quivering with joy. “You’re going to be daddies again, and Emerald’s going to have a sibling.”
“You are?” Gabriel asks me, his own eyes growing misty.
I nod my head, unable to speak from the joy in my form.
“Did you hear that, baby girl?” Tom holds the little girl up in the air and spins her around. “You’re going to be a big sister!” Our daughter giggles with delight, even though she has no idea what he’s saying.
Tom and Gabriel each embrace me in turn, the three of us are openly giddy and emotional.
“I can’t believe it. I’m the luckiest woman alive,” I tell my two lovers as tears stream down my cheeks. “I was going to wait to tell you tonight at dinner, but I just couldn’t.” I laugh a little as I wipe at my eyes. “I’m a mess!”
But then, Tom sets Emerald back in her play pen, and comes over to where Gabriel and I are standing. The two men exchange a quick glance.
“Well, we were also going to wait for a special time, but now, I don’t know if there could be a better moment,” Gabriel says as he reaches into his pocket.
“But for what?” I ask, looking innocently from Gabriel to Tom.
Suddenly, both men drop to one knee on the carpet. They look so handsome, their dark heads bowed and massive forms still as Gabriel holds a small, green velvet box in one hand. Tom takes it from him and opens it to reveal the most stunning diamond ring I have ever seen in my life.
“Michelle Sutton,” the men speak together, “will you marry us?”
I look from the massive diamond to the two men I love beyond words – Tom with his calm demeanor and Gabriel with his happy go-lucky charm – and all I can do for a moment is nod.
“Sweetheart, what do you say?” Tom growls. “Please put us out of this misery.”
“Honey, we love you more than the world itself,” Gabriel rasps hoarsely. “Please sweetheart, say something.”
I smile and through tears, the words finally pour out.
“Yes, yes I’ll marry you,” I say. “I would love to be your wife.”
With that, tears run down my cheeks anew as Tom slips the delicate ring onto my finger. I kiss him first, a deep lingering kiss filled with every ounce of love I have. Next, I kiss Gabriel, my heart bursting with the knowledge that these two wonderful men want me to be their wife.
For a moment, I stand there in my office, surrounded by people who love me and whom I love. And suddenly, I remember that first day at the Costas manor, when I’d been in awe of my new life. I can’t help but giggle out loud.
“What’s so funny?” Tom asks, looking bemused by my laughter. The ring glints in the office lights, and he admires it before pressing my hand to his mouth for another kiss.
I shake my head and smile. “When I first arrived at the mansion, I felt like Cinderella arriving at the palace. My life was a fairy tale, even if I was riding in a borrowed pumpkin. But you see, my chariot never turned into a pumpkin because my two Prince Charmings fell in love, and made me theirs.”
With that simple realization, I take Tom’s hand in one of mine, and Gabriel’s in the other, ready for the next chapters of my story – no, our story – to unfold.
