My palm automatically slapped him across the face.

He barely turned with the hit. There was no anger in his eyes. All he wanted was to continue the kiss—judging by the way he stared at my mouth hungrily.

He had his one kiss. My debt was repaid.

But my back stayed against the wall, and my eyes were locked on his mouth.

His eyes flicked to mine.

I met his.

Then I pulled him back into me and kissed him.

He grinned for a second before he fell back into our rhythm.

My hand yanked on his arm and pulled it back to my ass.

He squeezed it firmly as he pushed me into the wall, his hard dick against my lower stomach. A quiet moan escaped his lips as he started to grind into me, angling his hips down and hoisting my leg over his hip. He pressed his hard outline right against my most sensitive flesh.

My arms hooked around his neck, and my fingers fisted his short hair as he ground against me, hitting me in the perfect spot over and over. An unstoppable moan escaped my lips as I fell into the moment, as I forgot that I was just another pretty girl to conquer. With a mouth like that and a big dick that he knew how to use, he could conquer me all he wanted.

He fisted my hair and tugged my head back so he could kiss my neck, lavish me with his kisses and a few bites. His hips rocked harder at the same time, overloading my sweet spot, and I clawed at him to kiss me again, to muffle the moan I was about to unleash.

But he wouldn’t let me.

He kept his grip on my hair and locked me in place, his stare so intense he looked like a different man. His hips continued to rock, to roll his hard shaft right against my wet trousers.

I grabbed on to his arm and felt my body get pulled under. The tears started in the corners of my eyes, and the flush hit my cheeks hard. The moans emerged, unable to be contained, and my nails clawed at his flesh too.

It was like we were fucking—but fully clothed.

He kept me still against the wall as he watched me come, watched the entire show from beginning to end, and he did nothing to keep me quiet. There was no gloating smile on his lips, but there was a different victory in his eyes.

My hands grasped his forearms until the high passed, until the pleasure left my stomach and the area between my thighs. Then reality struck like lightning, and I could feel the wetness of my panties, feel the shame of my choices.

His hand released my hair. “Now, we’re even.”

We sat together by the fire, my mother in the armchair in front of the hearth with my sister in her lap. My father had made stew for dinner, and it was a meager meal with no flavor, but it was better than nothing.

I sat on the couch with a blanket over my thighs, my thoughts drifting back to that erotic kiss against the side of my house. I’d gone out there to hang the laundry, and I’d gotten the best kiss of my life. He didn’t even need to be naked to achieve what other men could.

Father spoke. “I entered us into the lottery.”

My sister turned the page of her book and kept reading.

Mother met his look. “You’ve entered us into that lottery every time it’s been open. We never get picked.”

“Maybe this time we will.” He scooped his spoon into the stew, which was mostly just bone broth. “We could get a big farm in the Capital. Sell this place and make enough to retire. To pay for your medicine.”

Mother wore a bleak look, like she didn’t believe that and never would. “We’ll see what happens, dear.”

Everyone in Delacroix entered their names into the lottery. A family was always selected and ferried off to a better life. The rest of us were left behind. Delacroix was a beautiful city to call home, but we were still poor. Father had destroyed his body through a lifetime of manual labor, and soon I would be taking care of them both because my sister was too young. My parents had taken care of me their entire lives, so I was happy to do the same, but it was hard to earn a living and take care of two aging parents too.

Ryker had no idea what that was like. Didn’t have those kinds of worries. Never would. When his father aged, the servants would take care of him, and he would be free to do whatever he wished.

I went to the market with the slip of paper in my hand. It was all the produce my mother had requested, squash, lentils, and other vegetables for her stew. And some beef too—if there was enough left over.
