“You would be too if you found yourself at the airport without warning,” I retort but inside I’m more than excited. I feel as giddy as a child.

“What about luggage?” I ask.

“Don’t worry about it,” he says and places his hand on the small of my back and propels me forward.

A few clues lead me to conclude that we’re not flying commercial but a private jet. I’ve never been in one of those and I can’t wait. We step onto the runway in front of a private plane with a smiling stewardess waiting to show us in. I climb aboard and greedily soak in the interior of the plane. It’s gorgeous. Spacious plush cream leather seats, a thick beige carpet, a dining area, and a huge flat-screen TV.

Every bit of my excitement must be reflected on my face because Jace has a wide, indulgent smile on his. We sit down on two leather chairs next to each other as the stewardess comes in and briefs us on the safety procedures. The pilot’s voice comes on the speakers and he refers to us by name.

“This is bliss,” I tell Jace. “I don’t even care where we are going. I’m just happy to be inside a private plane.”

He laughs. “I promise you’ll enjoy the destination more than the means.”

I look outside the small cabin window as everything whizzes by fast and then we are in the air. I love flying. Always have. I hope that one day, maybe when I’m retired, I’ll travel loads. I try to trick Jace into revealing our destination but he’s one step ahead every time.

Three hours later, the pilot announces that we are about to land and that’s when Jace tells me. “We’re going to Miami. I own a home at Luana Bay. You’ll love it there. Have you heard of it?”

Have I heard of it? “Who hasn’t?” I ask him. Most people refer to it as The Billionaire Haven. “Pinch me,” I order him.

Jace laughs and gives me a light pinch on the ass.

The plane glides to a stop and unlike commercial flying where the doors take forever to be opened, the stewardess opens the door immediately. “Have a good time,” she says as we walk out.

A dark SUV is waiting for us. The driver opens the door and we enter. As we drive away from the private airstrip, huge mansions appear. We pass a perfectly green golf course with gentle slopes that make you want to lie on your back and gaze at the sky. I’ve been to some gorgeous spots but nothing of this magnitude.

The car makes a turn and a couple of minutes later, we reach our destination. A Mediterranean-style mansion that can house a large nuclear family and their extended family.

“It’s beautiful,” I tell him as we step out of the car.

“Everyone in my family teases me about my opulent tastes, yet they’re constantly asking to come for a weekend,” Jace says with a laugh.

“I can understand why. I already feel relaxed.” The breeze is gentle and tinged with salt. Around us, palm trees and flowers sway.

“Let’s go in. Don’t worry, someone will carry your bag,” Jace says.

The first thing I want to do is strip out of my clothes and put on a swim suit. If I had one.

“Why are you making a face?” Jace asks.

“I don’t have a bathing suit.”

“We’ll find you one,” he says. “Let’s have a tour first then we can have lunch on the terrace. The view is the best from there.”

“Sounds perfect.” I follow him around the huge house, marveling at everything. Along the way, we meet a housekeeper but after discreetly greeting us, she melts away.

We head to the terrace after the tour. I gasp at the view of the ocean. It’s so close as if I can stretch my hand and dip it in the water. I’m so grateful to Jace for bringing me here. The table has been laid out and when we sit, a waiter comes and tells us what our meal will be.

Lunch is all manner of seafood, served with perfectly cooked vegetables and roasted potatoes. For once, I wish I had a massive appetite. Everything looks so good.

Chapter 15: Jace

Olivia looks like an angel with the evening sunset behind her and the wind blowing her golden brown hair as she paddleboards. I forget that I too am paddle boarding because the next thing I know, I’m falling through the air. Olivia’s laughter follows me as I splash into the warm water.

I bubble to the surface and clamber back onto the paddle board. Olivia is still laughing. I grin idiotically as I get on my knees then my feet.

“Try to keep your balance, will ya?” Olivia teases.

I haven’t laughed this much in a long time or enjoyed myself so much. Olivia is awesome company, but then I knew that when I invited her to Luana Bay. The only problem is the minuscule yellow bikini that she’s wearing that’s been wreaking havoc on my senses all afternoon.
