Mary was just as sweaty and dirty as he was, but had decided to pop a squat on the sofa and stare out the bay window to take a break. Now she felt bad for taking a few minutes when Alex was clearly still busting his ass.
“In the kitchen?” She smirked when he glowered teasingly. “I mean, I wrote where I wanted the boxes to go when I packed them up.” She gave him a wink and started laughing at the blank look he gave her.
“I thought these were just old ass boxes with random writing on them. Shit.” He looked down at the box but his grin was slow as it spread fully across his face. He shook his head before disappearing into the kitchen.
Their small two-bedroom house wasn’t anything fancy, but it was theirs and perfect. After the whole situation with Lance, Alex had become even more possessive, protective. Maybe it should have bothered her, made Mary feel suffocated. And maybe she wasn’t doing the feminists any favors, but God she felt special with Alex acting like that toward her.
She’d started taking self-defense classes right away, something that made her feel safe, independent and able to handle herself. She was still in school working on her Master’s. Alex had finished with a degree in physical therapy and now worked at the university helping out the football team he’d once been part of.
She was so damn proud of him, so proud of herself for rising above everything and moving forward with her life. Her family now supported her wholeheartedly, and although Margo still acted like she had a stick up her ass at times, she was understanding her sister more and they were becoming closer.
Mary hadn’t talked to Lance since the incident, but she’d heard he served some jail time, which caused him a lot of problems with the university he attended and with his family. To say she was thrilled the incident had caused a big scandal within the circle he ran and with his parents pleased her more than it probably should have.
The couch shifted slightly when Alex sat beside her and she glanced at him, a smile already on her face as she stared at the man she loved. “You stink.”
He nudged her shoulder with his and chuckled. “You think you smell like roses, baby?” He grinned and said, “But I find it hot as fuck you’re all sweaty.” Alex lowered his gaze to her breasts, ones that were barely restrained by her tank. “God damn, baby. You are so fucking beautiful.”
It might have sounded cheesy to some, but the sincere look in his eyes, the way his voice got all breathy and full of need, and the fact he now sported a huge erection, told her just how much he meant every word he said.
He leaned in, but she moved out of the way before he could touch her, a laugh bubbling out of her. “No way, you smell.”
His grin was infectious. “Aww, come here, baby.” He made a move to grab her, but she was off the couch and on the other side of it before he could catch her.
“We’re both sweaty, so let’s get dirty together, Mary.” His voice was a low, husky growl full of need.
She squealed when he hopped over the back of the couch effortlessly and had her in his arms before she could make a getaway.
“Gotcha,” he moaned that lone word out. “Didn’t you know,” he murmured against the side of her neck, “that you’re mine?” He started kissing her neck and she couldn’t hold in the moan that left her. “Mmm, that’s it. Keep making those pretty sounds for me.” He gently bit the side of her throat and another desperate sound left her. “I love your taste, love how fucking sweet you are.”
Mary turned so they were chest to chest, wrapped her arms around his neck, and rose on her toes to murmur against his lips, “I love you.” She dragged her tongue along his bottom lip then nipped it, loving when he groaned in response.
“I know, baby.”
