Happiness bloomed within her. “Is this really happening, or is this just a dream?”
“It’s really happening.” He pulled back and stared at her. “I’m so sorry for everything I’ve put you through. I won’t ever do that to you again.”
“I don’t mind. Are you sure the pack will be okay with me and Daphne?”
“Yes. Don’t worry.” He kissed her again. “I’ve missed you.”
“You haven’t been gone that long, not that I was counting.” She giggled. Not a second had gone by that she didn’t recognize his absence.
“You were. I can tell.” He kissed her again. “Fuck, I love you and I can’t believe I waited this long to tell you.” He held her close and he kissed her harder than ever before. “I love you so much.”
He moved her back to the bedroom. Even as she was a little afraid of the prospect of being with him in his pack, she knew she’d do anything for him. She’d finally found the man for her.
Epilogue
Five years later
“You’re so good with kids,” Amber said.
Winter smiled as she looked at the woman. The attack on the pack five years ago had left her without a leg, but they had consulted the best doctors and she was fitted with a prosthetic leg. It had taken her a long time to become friends with this woman as she didn’t trust easily, not that she could blame her.
The East Pack had welcomed her since they wanted Rocko, but it had taken time and patience for them to even come close to caring about her or trusting her. She didn’t mind.
She watched as Daphne played in the small park she’d insisted be installed. Amber was pregnant with her and Brian’s second child, while she was pregnant with her and Rocko’s first.
They’d decided not to have kids right away. It was a miracle she hadn’t gotten pregnant before now because they hadn’t exactly practiced safe sex. Far from it. Every time they were together, their need exploded and nothing could keep them apart.
“Ah, here’s my woman,” Brian said. “I thought you’d be resting.”
“I don’t need to rest.”
“It’s my fault. I invited her out to the park.” Winter closed her eyes as Rocko wrapped his arms around her. She’d know his touch from anywhere. The way he felt, his earthy smell. All of him.
“Hello, baby,” he said, kissing her neck.
“Hello.”
“How are you today?”
“I’m fine. The baby is also fine.” She touched her stomach. “She’s doing great.”
“Do we even know if it’s a she?”
“Not a clue.”
“I’ll see you tomorrow,” Brian said.
She hugged Amber and watched the couple walk off, happy and content to be together.
“You did that,” he said.
“I did?”
“Yeah. I didn’t think it was possible for her to ever like humans again. You did it.”
“I’ve missed you.”
“Mommy, Daddy, look, look.”
They turned to watch Daphne as she slid down the biggest slide. Clapping her hands in joy, she sank back against Rocko.
“I want to take you home.”
“You will. Let us enjoy our daughter first.”
They’d been able to build a life within the pack. One she cherished more than anything else, and one she had no intention of ever letting go again.
She would fight for the three of them, soon to be four.
