“Two weeks.”

“Two weeks? No fucking way.”

“I need to see you can stick to your word.”

“Kayden’s right. You are a fucking asshole.”

“Yeah I know. While we’re on the subject, we both know the club life. There’s not a damn thing wrong with it. Twinkies have their place in this world, but if I ever see you with another woman, or catch a breath of it, I’ll snap your neck. I won’t have you hurting my daughter.”

“Christ man. Kayden is a fucking handful. Do you really see me having the energy for more?”

“She is a chip off the old shoulder,” he brags.

“I’m trying to ignore that fact. If I didn’t, I’d be running for the hills.”

“Fuck you,” he laughs. “So, we have an agreement?”

“Do I have a choice?”

“Not a fucking one,” Dragon says, grinning.

“I didn’t think so. But, just so you know, I can vow to you that there will never be another woman for me except Kayden. You don’t have no worries when it comes to the club girls or anyone else.”

“Good to know,” Dragon says. “This door stays open while Kayden is in here,” he adds, turning to walk out.

The bastard.

“Besides, your girl wears a man out. There’s no way I could summon up the strength to look at another woman once she’s done with me,” I yell out.

“I should have fucking killed you when I had the chance. You should thank my wife when you see her, Chains. If not for her, you’d be two feet under.”

“Two feet? Don’t you mean six?”

“Nah, you need to be close to the surface for the vultures to eat off of your hide,” he calls back and then he’s gone, leaving me shaking my head, wondering just how crazy life will become with Dragon as a father-in-law.

Kayden

“I can’t believe you right now. No, Chains. Absolutely not.”

He mutters under his breath and then releases a breath that makes it clear he’s unhappy. He actually looks and sounds like a grizzly bear when they hit their favorite picnic spot, only to find out there are no left overs or people to maul.

“Kayden, you said you loved me.”

“And I do, although, I’m getting seriously worried about your sanity at this point.”

“Jesus, woman. I’m just asking you to marry me, not go on a Bonnie and Clyde killing spree across country.”

“You’re not asking me to marry you. You’re telling me to marry you and there’s a big difference,” I respond and I do it while wondering if I can kick him in the balls and not truly hurt him. He’s still recovering from Dad’s stupidity—not to mention my brothers, too. I don’t want to do more damage, but obviously Chains needs something to make his brain start functioning again.

“Fine, Kayden Nicole West, will you marry me?”

He’s sitting up on the bed with his boxers on—and just to be clear, my man doesn’t wear boxers normally. He’s strictly commando all the way.

“So freaking romantic,” I mutter, getting more and more pissed off by the second.

“Woman, why are you busting my balls? You said you love me.”

“Oh my God, you’re even starting to sound like him,” I cry, my hands tightening up in fists, because I literally have to resist the urge to slap some sense into him.

“What are you talking about now?”

“You’re starting to sound like my father! Stop it! Stop it right now!”

“Kayden, quit being a bitch. I’m not in shape to spank your ass right now. I’m not in the shape to argue with you either. We’re getting married and that’s final.”

“We are not getting married. I don’t want to get married. I have school to finish and—”

“Baby Girl, I’m not going to keep you from going to school.”

“Chains, you live life on the road. There’s no going to school when I’m on the back of a bike most of the time.”

“We’ll settle down. Stay in one spot, keep you close to your family.”

“Now, I know you’re insane. This is not you talking. I don’t know who it is, but it’s not you. You’re giving me all the answers my father would approve of. That’s not what I want.”

“Jesus. Fucking hell, Kayden. Tell me what you want, because I’m tired of trying to figure it out. I thought women wanted weddings—especially when they’re supposed to love their man. What? Was I just a way to tell your father to go fuck himself and now that he’s on board, you’re just going to tell me fuck off?”

“I… You… Oh my God! You did not just say that.”

“I think it’s pretty damn clear, I did.”

“You know what, Chains? If you think that’s who I am? Then you can go fuck yourself!” I growl and then, I turn and stomp out.

I make it all the way to the door when Chains wraps his arm around me and secures me against his body.
