“Oh!” Tara says as her green eyes light up. “I have an idea!”
I smile as I watch her run to the side of the house by the garden. Gratitude fills every inch of my body.
I adore that woman.
My inner grizzly grumbles in content as he watches her through my eyes. He’s been so calm and happy this past decade with her in our lives. Nothing can upset him anymore. She has such a calming effect on both of us.
“What’s that for?” I ask as she comes back with two flat rounded rocks.
She just grins at me. “You’ll see.”
My three kids help me lift the middle section onto the base and then since I’m the tallest, I grab the head and put it on top. It’s a few feet taller than me.
Tara is right. This snowman is so big, it will be part of the family until school starts in August when it finally melts.
“Lift me up,” Tara says with a grin.
She squeals in shock and delight when I grab her hips and lift her onto my shoulders.
“What are you doing, Mom?” Casey asks.
Tara sticks the flat rounded rocks into the top of the snowman’s head and then reaches into her pocket for more. She places smaller rocks for the eyes, nose, and some twigs for whiskers.
When she’s done, I step back to admire our masterpiece.
“It’s a snow shifter,” she says with a chuckle.
We all laugh as we see it. The flat rocks make perfect bear ears.
“I like it,” our youngest Abby says with a big smile. “This is the best day ever.”
The sun is out, the yard is full of snow, I have my three little cubs by my side, and my amazing mate on my shoulders. Pretty soon, we’ll head in for some hot chocolate in front of the fireplace and play a board game while munching on snacks. The kids will go to sleep happy and tired, and then I’ll have my sexy wife all to myself.
I have to agree with Abby.
This is the best day ever.
