“Know what?”
“That he was trading with them!” she said, omitting details that might get them in trouble, if the cops were listening in.
Leo shut his eyes and took a deep breath. “He didn’t do it while I was here. Don’t you think I would have told you if I'd known? Better tell me how Jeff is feeling.”
Rain sighed and took her time to answer. “He’s fine. It’s just gonna take some time until his arm is good again, but he woke up and everything.”
“Thank fuck. I wish I could have been there. Maybe I could have—”
“He’s a grown-ass man, and a member, Leo. If you wanna help, make sure you keep an eye on that lizard.”
Watching Zolt was the last thing Leo wanted to do. To think that in the last days he’d even considered sleeping together in one bed, since he was getting sick of the sofa. That wouldn’t be happening anymore because what Zolt had done to him was so shit Leo could hardly comprehend it.
“I will. Rain? I met someone here.” He had to take a deep breath to calm down, because the moment he thought back to Zolt watching him coldly while he reached out, still naked and slick with lube, tears stung his eyes. “And I went with the flow, just like we talked, and it’s a mess.”
. “Who was it? Some weirdo acquaintance of his? You know this guy’s shady as hell.”
Leo’s first instinct was to defend Zolt, to tell her that he was fun to be around and had his shit together, but what was the point?
“You could call it that. A girl from Reno. I… I’ve never felt this way about anyone, and it happened so fast I didn’t even know what I was doing. I thought we could just have a bit of fun, and now— Can a woman even use a guy? Is that a thing? Shouldn’t I be happy that I got some and get over it?” Leo’s heart burned for more tequila. He was embarrassed to his bones, but there was no one else he could talk to about this, and no one could find out the entire story. The true one where Leo had fallen for a man, and trusted him only to have his feelings soaked in acid.
“What did she do? You can’t beat her up, but I could,” Rain said with more force, and Leo felt as if she was here, pressing him to the bed of the pickup for an interrogation he couldn’t bypass.
Leo groaned, watching the sky above the dark form of the nearby hill as the city buzzed in the distance. “Doesn’t matter. It’s not like revenge would change anything. I just needed to vent to someone. I never thought I’d feel so alone here. I miss you guys, and my work, and I just wish this could all be over.”
Rain sighed, her familiar voice soothing his aching insides. “Maybe you could swap with someone? Though I’m not sure any of the guys would be as patient with him as you are, especially after tonight, so I doubt Dad would agree to stir the pot. It shouldn’t be long now, anyway.”
“I’ll tough it out, I don’t want to create any trouble for the club,” Leo said, even though every single fibre in his heart cried when he thought about enduring Zolt’s company. He'd opened his legs like a bitch in heat, and they both knew it.
“Yeah, better stay put and lick your wounds while you’re there. It sucks that girl didn’t see what an amazing person you are, Leo. You absolutely sure you don’t want me to beat her up?”
This time Leo had to chuckle despite having to rub his itchy eyes as well. “I’m sure. I’ll be fine. I wouldn’t mind if you entertained me for a bit longer though. He’s got his buddies over, and they’re all assholes. I can’t stand being in the same room with them.”
Rain laughed. “I bet they’re some old farts.”
“No, they’re a bunch of buff gay dudes, and they all want to fuck me. It’s… uncomfortable.”
Her laughter was so loud he had to pull away the cell phone from his ear. “Very funny.”
“No, I just imagine how they keep teasing you, just because you’re straight and on their turf. But don’t worry, I’m sure you can keep yourself safe until morning.”
“Yes, I can. Let’s change the subject please.” Because he’d already let Zolt fuck him, and all he’d gotten for it was the cold shoulder and an aching ass.
“Have you actually thought about the baby thing?”
“What baby th—oh.” Leo groaned and slapped his forehead. Another thing he’d been avoiding, because it caused an ache so deep inside it made him embarrassed to mention it to anyone. “I’m still thinking, okay? I’d need to talk to Mona. Oh! Fuck. I think they’re leaving now, gotta go,” Leo said, rattling the pickup to imitate noise.
