“You know I can’t get enough of you,” he grinned and waved at Mona. “Thanks for finding my treasure.” But he was already leading Amanda away from the noisy party.

The sooner he got the proposal over with, the better.

And if he couldn’t have the roof as the backdrop, then his room would do. It was where they’d first hooked up, where they’d shared many romantic breakfasts, and it felt homely.

“Where are you taking me?” she teased, her elegant hand squeezing his as he walked through the lounge, ignoring a couple who might or might not be having sex in a semi-public space. He hoped Amanda hadn’t noticed, or it might put her in the wrong mood.

“I just wanted some privacy, you know? It’s so loud out there.”

Rain’s words slowly dispersed in the back of Leo’s mind, and he got a spring to his step as he led Amanda upstairs. Like many other singles in the Heller family, he lived in the clubhouse, but they’d get a place of their own once Amanda agreed to marry him. Even a cozy apartment would do until they had children and needed more room.

“Of course you did,” Amanda said, sliding her hands up his arm and resting her cheek against it as they walked down the corridor. Leo’s pulse drummed so hard, it dulled the sound of Amanda’s voice, but nerves were natural in this situation.

Amanda didn’t compliment him much, but the way she touched him, the desire in her eyes when they fucked were a boost to Leo’s ego, and he craved them more than water. Sometimes, she’d ask him to stay in his biker vest and do her like that, and the way she moaned as she grabbed the leather sent him to cloud nine. He was a pleaser, and giving his partner what she wanted was Leo’s biggest turn-on.

Leo frowned when he realized his door had been opened, but he kept that to himself and led her into his room. Simple but spacious and clean, it provided all the privacy and space he needed. A few posters of his favorite cars hung on the walls, but Amanda had already left her touch in his room with the classy grey pillows she’d gotten him last month.

His bedding was in a bit of disarray, and he didn’t want to even ponder who’d been here. Worst of all, he spotted a used condom on the rug in front of the bed and kicked the rubber out of sight.

Before he could have said anything, she rolled on the bed, stretching over it with a wide smile, and Leo’s gaze was drawn where the dress clung to her smooth thighs. “I never sleep as well in my own bed.”

He stilled for a second, because this also spoiled his plans. He pulled her hand, to force her back into a sitting position, and finally went to his knees, hoping he wasn’t getting some fucker’s cum on his jeans.

“Amanda?”

She blinked her big blue eyes with endless lashes. “Hm?” With a grin, she spread her legs wider and attempted to pull up her dress, so he stopped her, wondering if this could get any more awkward. To make his point clear, he urged her knees together.

“Amanda. I love you. I love you so much, I can see myself spending the rest of my life with you.” He pulled out the box and opened it to show off the ring. “Will you marry me?”

Amanda stilled, her chest rising and falling as she watched him with a blank expression that would turn into a joyful smile once his intentions sank in. He waited for it to happen. But she pulled herself up on the bed and, somewhat awkwardly, rolled off a few steps away from him.

“You can’t be serious. I met you two months ago!”

It had been three. Well, two and a half, but what did it mean in the face of a future together?

Leo sat back on his heels with the ring still extended her way. “But we work well together—”

Amanda’s features formed a smile very much like the one she’d offered him when he entered the car dealership and talked to her for the first time. Polite yet impersonal. His heart was sinking fast.

“Look, Leo… you’re a great guy, but I don’t think I’m ready for this kind of commitment.”

Leo got off the floor to spare himself the indignity, but he held the jewelry box open in case she changed her mind. “I’m twenty-nine, you’re thirty. You said you wanted to have kids. Why wait?”

He knew he’d said the worst possible thing when her smile twisted into a scowl. “Oh, so you’re saying I should marry someone because I’m not getting any younger? If you think that’s a good reason to do this, fuck you,” she said and stormed off.
