“And what would they have seen?” I cover my mouth with my hand. I can’t believe I just asked him that.

“How much I want you.” There is no hesitation in his reply.

“You just had me.”

“If you would have stayed over, I could have had you again. And then again this morning.”

“So needy.”

He laughs, and I savor the sound. “Apparently I am,” he agrees.

“Busy week this week?” I ask.

“Yeah. I work Monday through Thursday. I picked up a shift covering for a vacation. Then I’m off Friday to Sunday. What about you?”

“I have a full week. I even have a shoot scheduled for my normal half day Wednesday in the afternoon. It’s a newborn, so it should be fun.”

“Will I get to see you this week?”

I bite down on my bottom lip. I want to scream out yes, but I know I need to not let myself get attached to him. At least not more than I already am. “It’s a busy week. What are you doing this weekend?”

“Whatever involves you. My only request is that it be somewhere I can at least give you a proper kiss hello.”

“Speaking of, that niece of yours is something else. Piper took a drink of water that went down wrong, which made her cough.” I pause, my laughter already bubbling over.

“This must be good,” Brooks says, humor in his tone.

“Oh, it is. Blakely was sitting next to her. She reaches over and pats her on the back and asks her if she needs a cock drop.”

“Stop!” His laughter fills my ears. “Did you tell Declan that one?” he asks.

“No. We didn’t want to embarrass her. We all started coughing, and she said, you all need cock drops. It was the funniest thing.”

“She’s a handful, that’s for sure.”

“Oh, and then we’re standing in line to order, and she asks Ramsey how ice cream is made. She explains from milk and other ingredients, which seems to pacify Blakely. We’re in the car on the way home, and she says, ‘Rams, thank you for the frozen cow.’”

“She did not.” Brooks wheezes with laughter through the line.

“She’s a trip.”

“She really is. I blame that on the fact that before Ramsey came into our lives on a permanent basis, my mom was the only female in her life. She’s basically being raised by a pack of wolves, with me, my brothers, and my dad.”

“Stop. You’re not that bad.” I chuckle.

“I guess not, but she’s not used to having all this girly stuff and girl time. It’s nice of you all to spend time with her.”

“She’s a good time.”

“She enjoys it. All she’s talked about for weeks is the sleepover at Deacon’s.”

“It was a fun night.”

“So, this weekend?”

“What did you have in mind?”

“How much time do I have? Hours? A day? All weekend? What do I have to work with and I’ll think of something?”

“I have no plans this weekend. I will have some grocery shopping and, more than likely, laundry if I don’t get to it during the week. Save one of the two days for me to get caught up with life since I’m working my half day this week.”

“One entire day. Oh, the possibilities,” he croons.

“What did I just get myself into?” I ask.

His deep throaty laugh flows through the line. “You’re safe with me, beautiful,” he assures me.

“I’m trusting you, Kincaid.” I keep my tone light.

“I’ve got five days. Mark Saturday off for me. My mom is pumped about using this new outdoor pizza oven next Sunday, so I can’t miss that.”

“I’ll have to check my schedule,” I tease.

“Saturday, Palmer.”

“Saturday,” I concede.

“It’s getting late, and I have to be up at five.”

“Have a good week,” I tell him.

“Do I have to go another full week without talking to you?” he asks.

“I know you’re busy.”

“When I text you, are you going to reply?” He ignores the out I’m giving him.

“I always do.”

“Good girl,” he says huskily.

Just like that, my panties are ruined. “I’ll talk to you soon,” I tell him.

“Night, Palmer.”

“Night.” I end the call and climb off the couch. I need a shower after that, and I’m ready to call it a night. It’s been an adventurous weekend.

Today has been a Monday for the record books. My first of two newborn shoots this week was this morning, and the studio has been a revolving door ever since. I’ve added new shoots to my calendar and sold a ton of prints from past shoots. For some reason, everyone decided today was the day to get images marked off their to-do lists. Not that I mind. This is my career, and knowing that my business is thriving is my dream come true.

Locking up the studio, I head to my car. As soon as I open the door, my phone alerts me to a message. Sliding behind the wheel, I start the car to get the air conditioning going. It’s the end of August and hot as hell here in Georgia.
