April

One year ago today I interviewed Asher in Barbados. Now we live together in an outrageously beautiful apartment that we call home.

I get to see him every day.

We've been living a somewhat normal life, more than I ever thought we would. Minus the paparazzi that hang out on our block hoping to catch a glimpse of him of course.

I go to work. He goes to rehearsals. Each evening we're home for dinner, movie, and bed.

This is our life for an entire month.

It's the best.

I didn't realize what I was missing out on. Little things that we had yet to experience together that most couples take for granted.

Lying in our bed.

Waking up next to each other every morning.

He’s going on tour soon, so this bubble won't last, but for the first time ever I know it won't completely pop. We'll get more bubbles like this.

He was right, when the tour is over he has a place to come home to.

A place where I’ll be waiting.

Taking Care Of You

May

Asher tries to set me up with a credit card.

I don't accept it.

He says it’s to buy things for the apartment but deep down I know he wants to make sure I'll be okay while he's on tour.

I can't decide if it's sweet or too much.

Every day he turns it into a game.

Where Has Asher Hidden The Plastic.

I always find it.

Today it was in my sandwhich.

Discovered it after I look my first bite too.

"It's unfair. You bring way more to the table." I slam the card down on the counter. It's still covered in peanut butter and he laughs profusely. "Travis and I never shared finances."

This causes him to stop and scowl. "Are you really comparing me to your shitty ex-boyfriend?"

I try to think of something else but I'm running out of excuses.

"Tell you what," he smiles with a gleam I'm sure to regret. "You can pay for that rug we picked out for the downstairs bathroom."

"Fine," I satisfyingly nod. I reach into my purse and take out my checkbook. "The headboard too." I proudly state, my negotiating game strong.

"You sure about that?"

Something tells me I'm not.

"Uh huh," I nod. "Absolutely."

"The headboard was ten thousand dollars."

My jaw drops.

"You let me pick out a ten thousand dollar headboard? Are you insane?"

He scratches his head with a laugh. "Oh man, I really love seeing you get all riled up."

"Here," I throw my whole checkbook at him.

It bounces off his chest.

"At this rate you mine as well just take all of it."

I'm stressed, wondering how I’m going to split the water, cable, or really any of the household bills on my salary.

Asher sighs, completely over this argument.

Then he stands.

"When you're done pouting I'm ordering dinner from that Italian place down the street.

I narrow my stare and get up too, heading upstairs to change.

That’s a lot of money is literally all I’ve been saying to basically everything lately.

"I told you, if you knew how much I had you'd feel silly for even bringing it up."

I didn't even know he was following me.

"Do you even know how much you have?" I cross my arms, annoyed.

"You're funny," he suddenly grabs me and I squeal.

"Asher, I'm being serious."

"Me too." He tackles until I'm pinned down on the bed. "I resent that, and yes, I do." He tickles until I beg him to stop.

"I remember the look on your face the first time we talked about money," he tightens his grip. "I had never been more embarrassed in my life."

I try to catch him in a moment of weakness but he grabs my hands the second they escape and traps them over my head.

"It was probably the third or fourth time I came over that I had your Dad teach me how to balance a checkbook."

I can’t help but laugh over how adorable that is.

"See, this is why I didn’t say anything. I knew he wouldn’t make fun of me. Unlike you," he starts ticking me again and I squirm so much my head knocks into the wall.

That’s going to leave a mark.

“See! This is why we need a headboard!”

“Motherfucker,” I grab my head.

“You okay? Shall I grab ice?”

“I don’t think we have any.” I rub the spot that hurts the most. “I’ll be okay... and I never said we didn't need a headboard. I just don't think we need a ten thousand dollar one."

"You picked it out, babe."

"Out of the three choices you gave me!"

He shrugs innocently.

"I'm never going to win, am I?"

He leans back with a laugh and thump.

“Bloody hell!” He rubs the back of his head.

"Oh no, not you too." I stifle a laugh. "For ten grand I hope this new headboard comes with pads."

He dramatically stands. "This is absurd! I’m calling the doorman for ice! Pick out dinner and stop being so damn difficult." He storms out only to return a second later, kisses me, and then walks out again.
