It doesn’t take long for Spade to find Max and for the IT guy to sit down at his computer to help me.

The man is a wizard on the computer, only needing to ask me a few questions before he’s able to pull up everything he needs, but then he frowns.

“What is it?” I ask, my stomach swimming with dread.

“You signed the house and land over to him?”

I shake my head as he turns the screen.

“These documents were filed with the county.”

The scanned documents are right there in front of my eyes, and sure enough, that’s my signature and the date I was at Will’s office.

“It’s obvious he tricked you,” Max says with an annoyed sigh. “Before you freak out, I’ll take care of this as well.”

My hands are shaking in my lap.

“What am I going to do?”

Max gives me a soft smile. “I’m going to fix it. The property will be back in your name by the end of the day.”

This should make me happy, but it still leaves me needing to sell the property. If I would’ve just left it in Will’s fucking name, my grandfather would be in the clear, but I promised Naomi that money was hers, and Lord knows the woman needs all the help she can get.

“And the sale?” I ask.

“Shouldn’t take more than a couple of days,” Max says, his eyes still on his computer screen.

“That easy?”

“That easy,” he confirms, lifting his head to the conference room doors when a knock echoes through the room.

I try to hide my mild disappointment when Faith instead of Spade sticks her head inside.

“I thought I saw your car outside,” my friend says with a smile.

“Why don’t you two have a visit? I’ll finish taking care of this,” Max offers.

“I’ll get you the bank information for my aunt,” I tell him.

“Already have it,” he says, not looking the slight amount guilty for accessing information he doesn’t have permission to.

I stand, refusing to jump on his case for helping me out.

“Thank you for everything,” I tell him.

I leave the room, leaning in closer when Faith wraps her arm around my shoulder.

“Are you okay?” Her voice is low as if she doesn’t want to alert anyone else around because she’s unsure of what my answer will be.

“As good as I can expect, I guess.”

She guides me to one of the sofas in the living room, and I feel another wave of disappointment when I don’t see Spade standing anywhere around.

“He’s out in the garage with Ethan,” Faith says as if she can read my mind.

“Are you off today?”

She shakes her head. “Unless I have afternoon court, I’m only working half days.”

She doesn’t seem exactly pleased about this.

“What’s going on?”

Faith looks away, her jaw tight.

“Things are a little tense around here. There’s heightened security. Ethan doesn’t want me at the office without him, but there are a lot of things they’re needing to do around here.”

“And how exactly do you feel about being followed around like a dog?” I roll my eyes, but I’ve had a tighter level of supervision at my own house, unable to even step out onto my back porch without Spade being right there with me. Even though I didn’t like it at first, I don’t exactly hate it now either.

“Having him around at all times of the day has its benefits.” My friend winks at me, making me chuckle.

“In the office? You minx. What about Pauline?”

Pink rushes through her cheeks as she shrugs. “I’ve been sending her out on a lot of errands.”

“Don’t you think getting frisky all the time is going to wear off eventually?”

“God, I hope not.” Faith chews on the inside of her cheek, her eyes growing a little glassy.

“Stop.” Teasingly, I smack her arm. “Don’t think about that kind of stuff when I’m around.”

“How are things going with Spade?” The only thing that would make her face more comical is if she started waggling her eyebrows like a cartoon character.

“Fine.”

“Just fine?”

“He’s a very clean person. Doesn’t leave a mess in my house. He even uses the squeegee in the shower when he’s done.”

“You only have a squeegee in your en suite bathroom.”

I look away from her.

“Is it just as good as the first time?”

“Is what good?” I ask, playing dumb.

She scoffs. “Really? Usually you’re the one giving me more details than I would ever ask for and now you’re acting as if you aren’t getting down and dirty every night with Spade.”

“We aren’t getting down and dirty every night.”

Hell, last night was the first time back at my house, and there wasn’t anything dirty about it. Maybe that’s what is leaving me feeling so off kilter today. It isn’t that we had sex again. It’s how it happened.

Spade walks through the living room, and although I know I need to look away from him, I just can’t manage it. His eyes lock on me the second he steps inside the clubhouse, as if he needs to make sure I’m alright. I watch as his tongue slips out, tasting the lower curve of his mouth, and it sends a race of chills up my spine.
