I moaned, my hands gripping his open jacket, my body quivering in response to his heat and his kiss.
Drake Johnson was a fucking god, and I was a mere mortal being tempted by his drugging lips.
“Good morning,” he whispered when he finally parted our lips, both of us breathing heavily.
“Morning,” I shakily breathed out.
He flashed me a grin. “So fucking cute.” My cheeks burned at his words. “Eat, so we can head out,” he ordered. He brushed his lips with mine again. “Or I might devour you before we head to school,” he warned.
My body heated, warmth pooling in my core.
Dear God, help me.

I quickly hopped out of Drake’s truck, trying to walk away before he could stop me, but he was faster than me. I should have known better, but I had to try. I didn’t want things to be worse than they already were.
I squeaked in shock when he grabbed my wrist and spun me around to face him, his hand landing on my hip as I crashed against his chest. My hands flattened against his sternum, my lips parted softly in shock. “Where do you think you’re going?” he asked me, arching a perfect, dark brow down at me.
“Drake, you really don’t want to do this,” I warned him. “This isn’t just some game. You can’t just step in and expect that you won’t—”
He rolled his eyes, pressing a finger to my lips to shut me up. I narrowed my eyes at him. “Let me deal with everything. You just stand by my side and look pretty while I tell everyone that doesn’t like me and you together to fuck off, yeah?”
I swallowed thickly, nervous despite his words warming all parts of my soul that had long been neglected. “You sure that’s what you want?” I whispered. I cared too much about him to see him torn down right alongside me.
He leaned down and kissed me. I moaned, my hands sliding up his chest to link behind his neck as he wound his arms around me, crushing my body against his. Everything ceased to exist except him and his hands roaming my body, his tongue licking into my mouth.
“Drake, bro!” I heard a guy call out, ripping me from my Drake-induced haze. Drake groaned and slowly pulled back from me, looking over to the side where Kaleb was walking over to us, his backpack hanging off one shoulder. I blinked at his best friend, my lips swollen, my skin flushed.
I wiggled to try to get out of Drake’s arms, but he only tightened his hold on me, shooting me a look that made me stop. My cheeks darkened. “Yeah?” he acknowledged Kaleb, taking one arm from around me to do some weird hand thing with him. “Normally, you’re barely on time. What’s with the change today?”
He cut his eyes to me before focusing back on Drake. “You skipping school with her went through the school like a fucking wildfire on Friday, bro. And a lot of people are fucking pissed—at her,” he warned Drake, inclining his head to me.
Fear made my heart skip a beat in my chest. I shut my eyes, my heart thudding hard in my chest. I knew this was going to happen, and now I was going to drag Drake down with me. And if Kaleb was a good friend, he would be trying to drag Drake away from me and my shit while he could, not standing here trying to warn his best friend I was in some kind of potential trouble.
“Thought I’d lend a hand in keeping her protected today.” I snapped my eyes open to stare at Kaleb. He ignored my look and shrugged his bag further up on his shoulder. “She’s going to need every bit of help that we can give her today.”
Drake nodded. “Thanks. Where are the others?”
“You two can’t be serious,” I finally blurted. Both guys turned to look at me. Kaleb smirked in amusement. “It’s just—I just—you two have lost your minds if you think that being around me is going to somehow protect me,” I said, a slightly hysterical laugh spilling past my lips.
“Fuck yeah, it will,” Kaleb argued, frowning now. “We get the rest of the team on board, anyone stupid enough to come near you will quickly fucking regret it.” He shrugged again. “Besides, I don’t remember you ever doing anything to receive the bullying anyway. Hell, before high school started, you were actually widely liked.”
“He’s right,” Drake said, turning his head to look down at me. It was clear he wasn’t going to budge.
I sighed, already feeling bone-deep tired, and the day had barely even begun. “But it’s not a big deal—not like you two are making it out to be.”
“The fuck it’s not,” Drake growled down at me. “One, bullying isn’t fucking okay, no matter what the person may have done. Two, the fuck if I’m standing around watching you receive the shit end of the stick because of a decision that I decided to fucking make.”
