I kissed him. “Why are you so amazing?”

That grin curled his mouth, ringing the alarm bells. “It’s pretty easy. I can be the sweet, cool, accepting boyfriend all day long because Liam doesn’t date women under thirty and Bane doesn’t date at all. Feel whatever it is you feel for them, baby, ’cause I’m the one who’s going to keep you.”

I gaped at him. “Are you telling me you didn’t mean anything you just said?”

“I’m saying we won’t find out.”

“You— You are such a—”

“I’m all of the above, Angel. I understand if this means the bitch boss will want her revenge,” he said, backing away. “In that case, she should know the handcuffs are in the bottom-left drawer.”

Irritation and lust battled for dominance. Sunny crooked his finger and lust kicked irritation’s ass.

I placed Laurel in her crib, my girl drifting off immediately.

Outside, Sunny raced me to the bedroom. Unfortunately, or fortunately, he got to the handcuffs first.

“WE WON’T BE GONE LONG.” I kissed Laurel’s chubby cheek, then kissed her five more times. The baby munched on her breakfast, blissfully unconcerned by my fussing. “If something’s wrong or she needs me, call and I’ll come right back.”

“Kenzie, we’ll be fine, dear.” Fuller laid out toys for Laurel in preparation for her after-breakfast free-play. Bethany had a full day planned for my nine-month-old. “Adeline hired me on as extra help around the time Liam turned six and developed a deep-seated desire to maim himself. Whenever they turned their back, he was either in something he shouldn’t or throwing himself off of it.” We laughed. “Trust me, the Redgrave babies and Tricky have thrown everything at me. This sweet little girl and I will be just fine.”

“And I’ll be here.” Sunny came out of the kitchen and set his breakfast beside Laurel. “The two of us got plans too. This one has a good arm, and it’s never too early to learn knife-throwing.”

“I know you’re kidding and I still had two heart attacks during that sentence.”

Sunny drew me in, tongue bidding entrance. I sighed into his deep, soul-melting kiss.

“One more thing,” Sunny began. “I was going to tell you when he came up, but I hated to ruin your good mood. Liam’s searching hard for Digger. It’s what he does when he’s not here with Tricky. Kenzie, Digger’s business is bigger than we thought. Bigger and more organized. It turns out Luca Adams isn’t his real name.”

“What? Who is he?”

“We have no idea. This fake life he’s set up is good, Angel. Very good. It held up when I looked into him the first time, believing he was a low-level pimp. Liam dug deeper and that’s when it all fell apart. Adams popped out of nowhere six years ago, but who or where he was before that is a mystery. We can’t find records of any properties or buildings under his name, and we can’t find him. He went into hiding after soiling himself in that old factory.”

“So, what do we do now? Does Liam need me to help? I’ll tell him everything I know about Digger—where he took me and the people he talked to.”

“Do it, honey buns. Catch him when you come back tonight, before he leaves for work. It’s personal now,” Sunny forced through clenched teeth. “If I could be out there hunting him down, I would. Best I can do is ride a laptop, searching for a digital trace of him. Bane has the Scourges on this too. We will find him,” he said, stroking my palm. “You get first shot when we do.”

Rage welled in my rib cage. Sunny gave Digger the chance to do the right thing. Set his captives free and get out of the business with his head intact. He could’ve done the right thing, and going by Liam, Bane, and Sunny’s strengthening crusade, his answer was no.

Get comfortable in whatever hole you’re hiding in, Digger, because I’m going to bury you in it.

“Ready?”

Sienna stood by the door, dressed head to toe in leather. The two of us were returning to the arcade—alone. Well, alone except for the security guards driving us there and back. A lunatic was out there planting car bombs. The Merchants learned their lesson on leaving their cars outside unattended.

“I’m ready.”

I kissed Laurel half a dozen more times. “I’ll see you soon, baby girl. Be good for Sunny and Ms. Fuller.” She let out a string of babble that I translated as goodbye, she loved me, and she’d be good.

Down in the parking garage, Coates and Wexler waved us into a black, tinted truck. Sienna and I talked in the back seat while we headed out of Leighbridge.

“What are you going to do about Athena?” she asked. “She’ll keep challenging you, and considering your new change in status with Sunny, her taunts are gonna hit home.”
