“Breakup revenge sex?” Harlee asked. She looked at me. “Is that even a thing?”
I shrugged.
“Oh yeah, for sure,” Heidi said. “I’ve done it like six times because of Joshua.”
Harlee slowly looked back at the woman. “Wait. Since your break-up?”
Heidi blushed. “We’d been together since high school, and I’ll admit I went on a little sex bender after he broke up with me and started dating my friend—”
Harlee held up her hands to stop her. “You slept with six guys, including Brax, while you were pregnant?”
“I didn’t know I was at the time! My periods have always been a little hit or miss, and I’ve always used a condom. Well, not with Joshua.”
I looked at Harlee, who just stood there blinking rapidly at Heidi.
“Anyway, let me get to the point. Brax, I have an affidavit from my lawyer stating that you and I had sex one time, used a condom, and that it was in May of 2022. Yours is the last signature I need to get before the judge will force the dickhead to take the test.”
I was positive I was giving her a what the fuck look. “Wait, that’s a real thing? Affidavits for when you had sex with someone?” I asked.
Heidi nodded. “I know. I know. I’m so embarrassed even coming here, and Harlee, I’m so sorry for the way it makes Braxton look. And I know you probably think ‘oh my God, she slept with six guys in a two-week period.’”
I choked on my own spit. Harlee reached over and hit my back a few times.
“Joshua was my first, so I had a lot of making up to do. I had a threesome the night after we were together, so that was like a two-for-one thing.”
“I need another drink,” I said to Harlee.
“Coming up,” she said, heading toward the bar cart.
“Anyway,” Heidi continued, “when I got back to Boston, I shared an Uber with this really hot guy, and we ended up—”
“I’ll sign it,” I quickly blurted out before we had to hear about any more of Heidi’s encounters.
“Great!” Heidi exclaimed. “That way, I can finally get the mother-fluffer to take the test.”
“Mother-fluffer? Oh my God. That’s my new favorite word,” Harlee said.
I read over the paper that Heidi had pulled from a bag, then looked at Harlee as she handed me a drink. “I guess I should be glad you’re not freaking out and running away after all of this.”
Harlee winked at me. “I don’t spook that easily.”
I smiled at her. I loved her so damn much.
After reading over the affidavit, I signed it and then handed it back to Heidi.
“Thank you so much for doing this, Braxton. And thank you, Harlee, for not freaking out. Most girlfriends wouldn’t be so understanding.”
Harlee gave her a warm smile. “I really do hope things work out with you and Joshua.”
Heidi had put the baby’s coat back on as I’d signed the paperwork. Now she stood, and this time Harlee took the baby while Heidi donned her own jacket. I watched as Harlee melted and started babbling to him.
It was the sexiest thing I’d ever seen. Harlee with a baby in her arms.
She looked up, and our eyes met. She had a huge smile on her face. I smiled back.
Oblivious, Heidi put her coat on and said, “Oh, I don’t want that mother-fluffer back. I want to take him to court and get as much money out of him as I can. He’s married to my ex-friend now—who, by the way, is the one who tried to accuse Braxton of being the father.”
“Ouch,” Harlee whispered.
“I’ll take him.” Heidi scooped the baby out of Harlee’s arms and started for the door.
As I opened it, I asked, “Do you need any help?”
“Oh no, my driver’s waiting for us.”
Glancing out the door, I saw a Mercedes parked there. A man got out of the passenger seat and opened the back door.
“Wait, what’s the little guy’s name?” Harlee asked, peeking at the baby once more.
Heidi smiled at him, then at Harlee and me. “Braxton. I thought it was a cute name. Plus, it’s driving Joshua mad that I named him that.” She started down the steps and called back, “Toodles! And congratulations on your relationship.”
I watched as the man took…er…baby Braxton and put him in the car seat as Heidi walked to the other side of the vehicle and slipped in. She finished strapping in the baby while the man got back in the passenger seat.
“That poor girl needs therapy,” Harlee said, stepping into the house.
Shutting the door, I leaned against it and watched Harlee walk back to the bar cart.
“Another double?”
“How are you so calm and not throwing the whiskey bottle at me?” I asked, moving toward the sofa to sit down. That had never happened to me before, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t freak the fuck out for a good solid five minutes there. “And I want you to know I didn’t lie to you, Harlee. I’ve never had sex with anyone without wearing a condom. I promise you that.”
