I grinned and winked as I strolled over to her. “I told you, Santa left you a present.”
Laurel giggled, and as soon as I was close enough, she jumped into my arms and smacked a kiss on my lips. “This is amazing,” she breathed.
“I hoped you’d like it,” I murmured before sipping from her lips once more. “Mmm, you taste incredible. I’m starving, but I should probably feed you before I eat my breakfast.”
A pink blush bloomed on her cheeks, and I chuckled as I carried her over to the table.
Reluctantly, I set her in a chair and retrieved our food from the oven before setting it in front of her and taking a seat.
She seemed delighted with the spread and dug in enthusiastically.
I barely ate, too busy watching her eat and talking myself out of knocking everything to the floor and fucking her on the table.
Finally, she finished, and I took a relieved breath.
“You seem to be pretty good at this whole snowed-in situation,” she mumbled after swallowing her last bite of food.
I shrugged. “Comes with living in a town high in the mountains. The snow is great for the ski slopes and tourists. But we get a fair share of storms.” I gestured to the window, where we could see the snow still falling and blowing around in the heavy winds, making it dangerous to leave the cabin. “Blizzards like this aren’t as common, but we try to be prepared when they come.”
We chatted a little more while I cleared the table. Once that was done, I moseyed over to her seat and lifted her into my arms. Then I did exactly what I’d been fantasizing about, eating her for breakfast right there on the table.
A short time later, we were cuddled on the couch in front of the fire, watching a movie, when my phone buzzed. I was lying on my back with Laurel tucked under my arm between me and the cushions. Her head rested on my shoulder, and she had a leg and one arm thrown over me.
Raising my hips a little, I dug my cell out of my pocket and saw a text from my mom. As soon as I’d realized I wouldn’t be able to make it to my parents' house for Christmas, I let them know and promised to call Christmas Day.
“I need to call my parents,” I murmured before kissing Laurel softly on the forehead. A second later, my phone rang with an incoming video call. I rolled my eyes at my mother’s impatience. I could practically hear her arguing with my dad about it. It always made my brother and me laugh because they were so freaking in love that even their fights were kind of adorable. Until they made up…then we took off as fast as possible.
Laurel moved to climb off me, and I frowned, tightening my arm to keep her in place.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
She gave me an exasperated look and tried to wiggle out of my embrace again. “You can’t answer your mother’s call with some random woman draped over your body.”
“First of all, yes, I can. And second, you are not some random woman. You’re mine.”
Before she could try to get away again, I accepted the call and smiled when my mother’s face filled the screen.
“Merry Christmas, my sweet boy!” she chirped.
“Merry Christmas, son!” my dad added from over my mom’s shoulder.
“Merry Christmas,” I echoed with a laugh. “I’m sorry I wasn’t able to be there today, but I promise, I have an excellent reason.”
“Oh?”
I turned the phone a little so that they could see Laurel, who was currently trying to burrow into my side.
“Mom, Dad, this is my Laurel. Baby, this is Betsy and Clavin Douglas, my parents.”
Laurel peeked out and gave a tiny wave. “Um, hello,” she squeaked.
My mom’s face brimmed with excitement, and I knew she’d picked up on what I was implying.
“Hello, Laurel!” she gushed. “My, aren’t you beautiful. My son has excellent taste.” Then she shot me a disapproving glare. “And why didn’t you bring this lovely girl to meet us? You made her stay in a hotel? Hayden Frederick Douglas! I taught you better—”
“I just met her on Christmas Eve, Mom,” I cut off her rant with my explanation. “I found her a room at the inn, and when I brought some chains for her van, we got snowed in together.”
My dad grinned while my mom sighed with a dreamy expression. “How romantic,” she whispered.
Laurel giggled, and my mom beamed at her. “Well, I’m sorry we aren’t meeting you for the first time in person, but we’d love to get to know you.”
Laurel tried to sit up again, but I tightened my arm around her, forcing her to stay right where she was. She huffed in annoyance but smiled at my mom. “I’m happy to get to know you as well.”
