From a distance, I watched her speak to them, forcing them to show her whatever was on their screen. Her face tightened, eyes wide, as she stared at the girl’s phone for a few more seconds. Annie then looked up at me with a stony expression on her face before walking over and pulling out her own phone. It didn’t take her long to find what was going around.

I watched the video of me with the guys in the bar, my blood running freezing cold. I knew it felt like someone was looking at me from behind me! But I chalked it up to my tipsy mind making up stuff. Not that someone was videoing me and preparing to show the whole school!

“I was drunk,” I said as I shook my head. “It’s nothing.”

“Well, everyone else would disagree,” Soroya muttered as we watched everyone ignore our sweets and focus on me instead.

I pulled out my phone and went searching through social media, finding all sorts of negative posts about me being a slut or a terrible captain who wasn’t focused on my team. Every comment weighed me down more and more to the point where I could’ve collapsed.

“We should wrap up for the day,” I told my teammates, who merely nodded quietly and started picking up everything. I needed to get back to my dorm. I couldn’t stand watching these people stare at me and laugh like they actually knew me.

So, I did sleep with the guys after that video was taken, but no one needed to know that! They shouldn’t know that because it was private. And I had a feeling that the guys probably knew about the video too, but they wouldn’t care. It wouldn’t affect them like it was already affecting me because I was a woman.

With burning eyes, I hurried toward my dorm, wishing that this entire situation would go away. I couldn’t pile on more obstacles for myself to face. I already had enough in front of me, and this could ruin everything for me. If no one took me seriously as the captain of my team, we could lose the funding and support we already had.

Then, we would be back to square one, and we really wouldn’t have a shot at being able to afford to travel to Germany.

“Leah!”

I sniffled and turned around to see Colm and Jed walking toward me, my heart jolting at the sight of them. I didn’t want them to see me like this, bordering on a crying mess.

“Oh, hey,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady. I quickly blinked my eyes to try to brush away any tears.

However, they were far too intuitive to be tricked by my sorry attempt at cloaking my sadness.

“What’s wrong?” Colm asked with a worried frown on his face.

Jed stood at my side, placing his hand on my back with a furrowed brow.

I shook my head as I lowered my eyes.

“I think everything is ruined,” I said. “There’s this video going around that shows me with you two and the other guys on the team at the bar. It’s obvious I’m drunk and flirting with all of you, which makes me look like a traitor to my own team! People aren’t taking me seriously now.”

Colm and Jed share an upset look.

“Where are you going? Back to your place?” Jed asked as he glanced around, seeing a few people looking over at me.

I nodded.

“It’s just over here,” I said before leading them to my dorm, wanting to get away from everyone else. I felt their warm bodies on either side of me as they trailed me, staying close in a protective formation that made my heart skip. No matter what, it seemed like I could count on them, even if they were on the opposite team.

Once we got back into my dorm, which was all my own now that Jourdanne was living with her sugar daddies, I crashed down on my bed, staring up at the ceiling.

“I don’t understand how this happened. I didn’t know anyone was watching us! It felt like… like we were in our own little world together,” I murmured.

Jed and Colm sat down on either side of me.

“They had no right taking that video of you. Of us,” Jed told me as he gazed down at me. He had a firm look on his face, seeming genuinely aggravated at whoever spread that video.

“It doesn’t matter what people say either. You’re a damn good captain. You’re a skilled hockey player. A video of you having some fun doesn’t change that,” Colm said as he placed his hand on my thigh, giving it a comforting squeeze.

“But it was a video of me with all of you. And we all know what happened afterward. I can’t even deny the allegations that I’m a slut because I did sleep with you!” I groaned as I covered my face with my hands. I didn’t regret that night, but I wished that it hadn’t been broadcasted to the entire university.
