What did I do with myself then? Was that even living? This family is the reason I get up in the morning. They’re the life force in my blood that keeps me going every day. I thought I was happy with my life before meeting Lori. Now, I can’t imagine what it would be like to be single again.
I slip out of bed and fix the covers on the little ones. Liam opens his eyes and whispers, “Dad.”
I kiss his head. “Back to sleep, little man. It’s still dark outside.”
He rolls over and drapes his arm over his little sister.
“Is it time for you to get up already?” Lori asks, rubbing her eyes.
“Yeah, but you go back to sleep. There’s no reason for us both to be up.”
“No. I’m going down to make you breakfast. The kids will be down for hours. I can go back to bed once you leave.”
“You’re too good to me, baby girl,” I say, slapping her ass on her way to the door.
When I arrive downstairs, she has bacon and eggs waiting for me. The smell of freshly brewed coffee wafts through the kitchen and awakens my senses.
Lori sits with me while I eat and kisses me goodbye. I get on my cruise and slide the key in the ignition.
I’m about to turn it but stop to take one last look out the window at our home. The sun has just crested in the morning sky, and everything is still.
Yeah, this is home. There’s nowhere else in the world I’d rather be.
The End. Thanks for reading!
