“It.” His expression said he thought I was an idiot and getting dumber by the second. But at least him questioning my intelligence got me more information. He looked up toward the sky and waved a hand around low above the table. “It.”

Flying.

Oh.

I wasn’t even going to begin to guess why he’d talk about sex in the diner and not flying with my mate, but it didn’t seem to be the time to ask. “No.”

Stefan’s gaze was bouncing back and forth between us and he had the cutest frown on his face as he leaned in as close as he could and whispered much softer than Kenzie had ever been able to manage. “What are you talking about?”

Well, at least he hadn’t assumed the worst and gotten offended.

I wasn’t quite as exaggerated as Kenzie had been with my tone, but I kept my response quiet. “Taking you flying with me.”

Stefan’s mouth dropped open again. “We can really do that?”

“What’d I miss?” A gruff voice called from the front of the restaurant, thoroughly pissed to have missed out on the good gossip.

Fucking insane.

There really were good reasons Talon had thought we were aliens and I completely understood why he was still snickering…but that didn’t mean I wasn’t imagining ways to kill him.

“I know we talked about it in theory, but I didn’t think we could do it.” Stefan still seemed shocked at the idea going from theoretical to practical.

“Yes. We can do it.” Before I could give him a longer response, though, he turned to Talon.

“Did you do it?” Stefan didn’t seem to realize how that’d sounded until half the room started snickering.

Shaking his head, Stefan didn’t let it distract him from his goal, however. “I have questions.”

I bet he did.

So did the rest of the people in the diner, but I could guarantee they were not all on the same page.

“Let’s go home so we can answer them.” Kenzie beamed, either not noticing or not caring about the dirty snickering going on around us. “We’ll show you.”

Somehow it just kept getting worse.

Talon could barely breathe as the entire diner seemed to think Kenzie had invited himself over for some kind of teachable moments orgy.

“I look very good naked, so don’t worry.” Kenzie was still being very Kenzie as he shoved Talon out of the booth. “Let’s go. This is going to be fun.”

Stefan’s head was going back and forth like he’d lost track of reality and it only got worse as Kenzie took my mate’s hand and gave him a big smile. “Don’t worry. It doesn’t hurt.”

Great…just great.

Talon finally managed to stop laughing as Kenzie dragged us all from the booth and started a forced march toward the door, only giving me enough time to toss money on the table because even he realized that pissing off Nancy would not be a good idea.

Every eye in the place was on us and Kenzie just waved as Stefan was marveling at either the chaos or the flying part of it.

I wasn’t sure which, but it was probably a mix of both.

“Really?” Stefan’s gaze was back to bouncing between the three of us as we finally escaped the prying eyes inside. “That sounds rude. I kind of thought Boyd was just being polite. We really shouldn’t.”

As he started shaking his head, Talon nodded. “It really does, but it’s a thing.”

We still sounded terrible, so I nodded toward the cars at the back of the parking lot. “If we could step away from the neighbors who think we’re going to have an orgy, that would be wonderful.”

Talon managed not to laugh.

Stefan looked shocked.

But Kenzie rolling his eyes was my favorite part. “Like I’d need to talk in code for that. What are they thinking?”

I had no idea what he was thinking, but Stefan was too focused on the flying part to worry what his neighbors thought. “It’s not rude?”

Talon shrugged. “Private but not rude.”

Mostly because teenagers were assholes and could make sex jokes out of anything, so the adults had stopped talking about that kind of stuff, which made it sound taboo.

We had to work on our fucking communication.

Ignoring the prying eyes that were peering out the front door, I took Stefan’s hand and pulled him away from Kenzie to give him a quick kiss. “We can go home and I’ll show you.”

“What if someone sees?” Before I could answer that one, Stefan kept going. “What if I fall? What if it’s uncomfortable? What if I get cold? What if everyone finds out?”

That last part was timed perfectly to coincide with the diner door opening and I could hear the gasps from our nosy neighbors.

Great.

Talon was back to snickering but he could breathe, so I ignored him and stayed focused on Stefan as we finally got far enough away that we had real privacy. “I will be careful. We won’t go high. We can get you a coat, but I think you’ll be fine.”
