"See you at Garrett's later," Bronx calls over his shoulder, struggling to buckle the wiggling child into her car seat.
I chuckle again. For a fucking giant, he has his hands full with her. But I know him well enough to know that he loves every goddamn minute of it.
"Later, brother." I lift a hand in farewell before hurrying inside the bakery, eager to see my wife.
I stop short just inside the door, my cock turning to stone at the sight of my gorgeous wife. She’s behind the counter, one hand resting on the swell of her pregnant belly as she gossips with Aspen, a bright smile on her face.
Christ, she’s so fucking beautiful. And she only gets more beautiful every damn day.
It's been five years, and the way I feel about her only grows every damn minute. Some days, I think I may choke on it. Like right now, staring at her, knowing she's carrying another of my babies. There's nothing better. With her by my side and our little family growing, my life is perfect.
It’s been perfect every damn day since my menace of a dog broke into her house, and she stole my fucking heart. She can’t ever give it back to me now. It’s hers permanently.
She glances up as if sensing my eyes on her. Her gaze lands on me, and I don’t have to wonder if she feels the same. I see it painted across her face when it immediately lights up with happiness.
“Alessandro!” she cries.
My heart pulses in my chest, my feet moving toward her before I even issue the command. I pull her into my arms, kissing the shit out of her, tasting the sugar on her lips.
Fuck. She’s the sweetest thing in my world.
"Mm, what was that for?" she whispers breathlessly when I finally let her up for air.
"That was because it's Friday, Sunshine." I tap her on the nose playfully, grinning at her.
She laughs, burying her face in my throat. "You said the same thing about Thursday, cupcake."
"I'm pretty sure he said it about Wednesday, too," Aspen pipes up, giggling.
"I'll say it every damn day I get to kiss my wife," I retort, completely unashamed. The way I feel about this woman is no secret. Everyone in town knows I’m crazy about her.
I took over as Chief of the department a little over a year after we got together. Our Chief said we stressed him out too fucking much. Now, the crew stresses me the fuck out. Half of them call me Chief Cupcake, but I’m not even mad about it. They can call me whatever the fuck they want so long as they keep their eyes off my wife.
"Aww." Aspen beams at us, then rolls her eyes good-naturedly. "Okay, that's my cue. I need to go find my own husband for kisses." She waggles her eyebrows, making Heidi laugh. "Catch you lovebirds later!"
"Bye, Aspen," Heidi calls as her friend saunters out, the door chiming in her wake.
"I fucking missed you today, angel," I growl, pulling her closer. Christ, there’s nothing better than the feel of her in my arms.
She smiles up at me sweetly. "You and Emmett were just in here at lunch."
"Exactly. That was hours ago. Far too long." I dip my head to steal another slow, drugging kiss.
She sighs into my mouth, sinking against me for a long moment. Then she pulls back slightly, shaking her head. "What am I going to do with you, Alessandro Banger?"
"Oh, I've got some ideas." I let my hands drift lower, palming her delectable ass.
"Oh, really?" She smirks at me, mischief dancing in her eyes.
"Mmhmm." I nuzzle the sensitive spot beneath her ear. "I'm thinking you close up shop an hour early. Let me feast on your sweet little body in the office before we head to Garrett's for dinner."
"Hold up, Chief. Aren't you on call tonight?"
I sweep her up into my arms, making her squeal. As soon as she’s secure, I bend down, hitting the button beneath the register that automatically locks the front door and flips the sign to 'Closed'.
"I convinced Emmett to cover my shift. He and Rivin are holding down the fort because I’ve got plans, Sunshine.”
She winds her arms around my neck, her green eyes darkening. "Well, then, don't let me stop you, Firefighter."
"Oh, you won’t, angel." I capture her mouth again, kissing her hard. "Not until you're all wrung out and sleepy.”
"Oh," she purrs, melting against me. “I like these plans.”
"Thought you might, wife."
Heidi sighs blissfully, snuggling into my chest as I stride toward her office. "I love you, Alessandro. So damn much."
"I love you too, Sunshine."
And I do. So fucking much it consumes me at times. This woman owns me, heart and soul. And this—here, now, with my whole world in my arms, our fourth baby on the way—is better than any future I could have envisioned. It’s heaven on earth.
