He cocks his head. “You think?”

I shrug. “It’s a possibility.”

He snorts as he puts his shirt back on and throws the used condom in the bin. I swallow hard at the thought that we actually fucked. He was inside me, and we both came like we’d been waiting for this moment for ages.

And fuck, it still makes me wet thinking about it.

“We should be happy if half the school didn’t hear us,” Cole says.

Both my cheeks turn strawberry red, and I gently punch his shoulder. “Stop.”

He pulls me to him and presses his lips onto mine for a quick but sultry kiss. “That’s what you get for being with me. Constant horniness.”

What … did he just actually say that?

“Being with you?”

“Yeah, haven’t you heard?” he says with a smug look on his face. “According to Michael, you’re my girlfriend now.”

My eyes widen, and my body goes completely rigid against his. It can’t be. No fucking way. “He was trying to get under your skin.”

He shrugs with that same confidence that always gets my heart beating faster. “I don’t care what he or anyone else thinks.”

Shit. Does he … not even mind? I mean, we’re talking about Cole Travis here. Certified rock star giant among high schoolers, and here is one of his own ex-band members calling me his girlfriend in front of everyone. He should be trying to deny it vehemently, both online and offline, yet he doesn’t even seem to … care.

And judging from the smile that forms on his lips as we walk to the door, I don’t think he wants to refute it.

Shit.

Fuck.

I can’t fucking think straight. I’m that fucking flustered.

Cole opens the door, and Mel almost falls inside.

“Jesus,” she scoffs as she falls into him. She looks up, and when she notices it’s him, her eyes widen, and she quickly shuffles back. “Cole, sorry, I was just looking for the music teacher and—”

Then she sees me.

Her jaw drops slowly, like in a movie, and it makes me snicker.

“Monica,” she mutters. “Cole.”

“Mel,” I reply.

“What are you two …?” She eyes us both, and her eyes narrow. “Oooooh …”

I rub my lips together and look away, embarrassed that she was the one who found us.

“Right,” Cole says.

“Right,” Mel repeats, looking severely befuddled and embarrassed, just like me.

“Please don’t say a word,” I ask.

“Oh, no,” she replies, adding a tsk sound. “Who, me? My mouth is sealed.”

I smile. “Thanks, I appreciate it.”

“But … are you guys like … a thing now?” she asks.

Cole snorts as he sees my cheeks flare up again. “Uh, I don’t—”

“No comment,” Cole interjects.

“Complicated, huh?” Mel says, winking at me. “Well, I don’t mind. Y’all do whatever you want. It’s not my business.” Then she looks at Cole and points her finger at his chest. “But you’d better treat my girl right, got it?”

He straightens his back. “Got it.”

I burst into laughter. “Don’t worry. I’m all covered.”

“Are you now?” She puts her hands against her side. “How covered are we talking? A little bit, or the Full Monty?”

I don’t think I could get any redder, but apparently, it’s possible.

“Relax, I’m just messing with you,” she says, poking me in the belly. “You do what makes you feel good. I don’t judge.”

“Thanks,” I reply.

“I just hope y’all can weather the storm,” she says.

“Storm?” I mumble.

“Yeah, word goes around school pretty fast.” She folds her arms. “Everyone knows about that fight between Cole and Michael, and that includes the teachers.”

“Shit,” I mutter, completely caught off guard.

“That’s what you get with celebrities. Cameras follow you everywhere. And when you do something stupid, everybody knows.” She glares at Cole for a second.

“Thanks,” he tells her. “But I was defending Monica.”

“I know,” she says, lifting her head. “And as her friend, I appreciate that. I just hope you don’t get into any more trouble because you’re in for some heavy-duty apologizing.”

Suddenly, the intercom goes off. “Will Miss Romero, Mr. Travis, and Mr. Jones please report to the principal’s office?”

“Jones?” I mutter.

“Michael,” Cole says with a gruff voice.

My whole body freezes as Mel’s face tightens. “Damn. Guess it’s already too late.”

Damn? Holy fucking shit is more like it.

Chapter 33

Cole

“Sit down,” Mr. D tells us the moment we enter his office.

Monica and I gulp as we approach the table and sit on the chairs. Moments later, Michael enters the room, and we stare at each other for a few seconds.

“Mr. Jones, sit down,” the principal barks.

Michael sits down opposite me and scoots his chair a little farther to create extra space. I don’t mind. I probably would’ve ripped his fucking head off if he came close.

“So, who wants to start?” Mr. D asks, flicking a pen back and forth while pacing around. “Wanna explain why you two were fighting in the hallway?”

Neither of us opens our mouth.

He places his hands on the desk. “Talk.”
