I stared at the way the moonlight made shapes on the ceiling.

No. Sleep wasn’t coming. Not after what Boyd had just done to me. One kiss and my entire body was in flames. One slap on my ass, and I was ready to hump my pillows all night long.

He’d spanked me! I’d been stunned by that but more stunned because I’d liked it. Holy crap, had I liked it. But he’d left me wanting. Reaching back, I cupped my bottom where his hand had struck. Earlier, I’d peeked in the mirror, and there was a pink Boyd-sized handprint on my ass. It was as if he’d stuck with me even after he’d left.

I’d almost died on the spot when he’d turned me down. All night long, I’d told him no. I’d outright said he was a player, then I’d decided to hell with it. He was God’s gift to women, and I owed it to all of them to get it on with him. After the whole incredible encounter in his barn, I knew he was a giver. He hadn’t wanted me to get him off. He’d gotten on his knees for me, not the other way around. Most man whores—although I didn’t really know very many—wanted a woman to get him off, give him a blow job and be done.

He had to have blue balls by now. I’d felt how hard he was when he’d pressed up against me in the bar. He’d wanted me all along. The kiss hadn’t been a lie. But if he really was a one-night stand kind of guy, why had he walked away? Why had he said no? What player said no?

Maybe Boyd wasn’t a player. No, he’d admitted he was. Or had been. Maybe he really was trying to be different with me.

Still, while I appreciated his reasons, it was still cruel of him not to come in and satisfy me after he got me all worked up. I must be ovulating. Becky would say I was horny.

Well, she was right. My nipples were hard, my pussy ached with want.

How dare he leave me all hot and bothered! He wasn’t a man whore. He was a tease. I intended to tell him so when I saw him tomorrow.

Screw that. I was telling him now. I grabbed my phone from the nightstand and opened a text message for his number.

Well, that was my intention, but I guess I hit dial, instead, because suddenly the phone was ringing.

Oops! Um… I hung up quickly, then laughed out loud at myself. That was stupid. God, I felt like a high school girl. Should I call him back?

No need. He called me.

“Oh, um, hi Boyd!” The laughter came through in my voice as I set the phone by my ear. I lay in my bed, the room dark and quiet, and I talked to a boy. No, a man. Boyd Wolf was all man.

“Hey darlin’. I was just thinking about you. Actually, never stopped. Everything okay? Jett Markle’s not messing with you some more, is he?” His deep velvety rumble reached straight into my body, heating me from the core. And his concern… gah.

“No. I’m fine. I was just going to tell you that it was mean of you to get me all worked up and then just leave. I’m too revved up to sleep now!”

“Yeah, I was just trying to let off a little steam myself.”

My nipples hardened to diamond points. I pictured him lying on his bed, his cock in hand. “Y-you were?”

“Uh huh. I’m sorry to leave you aching, darlin’. But I had to bust up your ideas about me.”

“M-my ideas?” I still couldn’t get past the image of him stroking himself. I wanted to see that cock up close and in person. I wanted to help with my mouth and tongue. What was wrong with me? I’d wanted sex before but never had lusty thoughts about a BJ.

“That I only want in those lacy little panties. Which I do—no denying it. But I meant it when I said I was interested in sticking around here if there was a good reason. And I’m hoping that reason will be you.”

I didn’t know what to say for a second.

“That’s insane.” I sounded breathless. “You just met me. You don’t know anything about me. You couldn’t possibly want to stay and settle down with me.”

No, he hadn’t said settle down. But wasn’t that what he meant?

“You don’t believe in love at first sight, Doc?” he asked, his voice deep and rich like dark coffee through the phone.

My breath left me in a whoosh. What was he saying? “I-is that what you feel for me? Love?”

“From the moment I saw you in that med room at the arena. I almost lost my shit when Abe invited you out for coffee. After, in the stands, he put his hand on your shoulder, I saw red.”
