My pride is already pretty banged up by all the terribly awful things Paxton has said to me since we boarded the plane.
Laughter pulls my head in the direction of the captain and Paxton, who are getting along very well for having just met. Go figure. He gets on with everyone but me.
I didn’t ask my father what he knew about Paxton Ramsey because that would require me to discuss business with him, and that’s out of the question. Not that it matters. Sounds to me like there’s bad blood between my father and Paxton.
Plus, calling my dad isn’t on my to-do list.
Every time I talk to him, it’s the same bullshit. “When are you going to abandon this pipe dream and come work with me?”
Um, never.
My body jerks, and I’m shaken out of my thoughts.
Holy crap.
From where I’m sitting, I have a clear view of the ocean. It’s vast and never-ending. The water is choppier than anything I have ever seen. Large waves are forming in the distance, and my heartbeat quickens.
Can this boat make it?
I squint my eyes to see if I can make out the island from here, but I have no visibility. Between my hair whipping in my eyes and the saltwater burning my eyeballs, I’d prefer to simply keep my head down.
I’m thankful I’m seated and don’t have to walk anywhere because I can’t imagine that I could for any reason.
The salty air lingers in my nostrils, and I’m practically choking on it.
I hate this.
“You okay back there?” Paxton asks me. Although his question is one of concern, his facial expression says otherwise.
He’s smirking.
His eyes are alight with mirth, and I wonder what he’s up to.
I don’t have to wait long for my answer.
It comes in the way of a giant wave, and the boat crashes right into it. The ginormous splashback drenches me all the way through.
I might as well have just jumped into the ocean.
I have to look like a drowned rat, and as much as I don’t give a damn what Paxton Ramsey thinks of me, I do care what others think. Showing up on the set looking like this isn’t professional, even if it wasn’t my fault.
I purse my lips together, watching as the two idiot men cluck like hens, laughing about me, if their stares in my direction are any indication.
Great. Just great.
The first thing I do is lift my hand and scrub at the salty water clinging to my skin. My eyes burn even more now, and it takes a few minutes to regain my sight. When I do, I realize that being wet isn't my only problem.
This is not my finest moment.
My travel outfit was not planned for a soaking, compliments of a half-crazed captain and a scallywag skipper.
Sopping wet, dressed in a white tank and white shorts.
My pert nipples are on full display.
My shorts cling tightly to my bottom, leaving little to the imagination.
“Need a jacket?” Paxton calls out, grinning widely. “Oops. Left that back home.”
Jackass.
As if my life couldn't get any worse, the engine sputters as we near the coast.
“Give me a fucking break,” I yell up to a sky that has become dark and mocking.
Great, just great.
I keep looking at the angry clouds above. “It's going to rain, isn't it?”
“Sure looks that way,” Paxton says, eyes tipped toward the sky.
The boat continues its sputtering, jerking back and forth.
“Are we . . . are we running out of gas?” My voice pitches.
“Seems likely.” Paxton uses that moment to look at me. “Look on the bright side, princess. You can't get any wetter.”
FML.

Paxton
@Stargossip: Is it just me, or is the silence from the Twisted Lily reps telling?
@Nobodycares: Just you.
@Stopinthenameoflove: Paxton Ramsey and Mallory Reynolds boarded a private jet.
@Dontdogthedog: Production is shut down. The movie is toast!
@Deathtothesystem: I find it hysterical!
She truly is a sight.
Drenched from head to toe, I can't stop staring at her.
I want to for so many reasons, but I'm finding it nearly impossible to turn away.
She's dressed in all white, and her clothes have gone see-through.
I might not like her. Hell, I might hate everything she stands for, but even I can admit she's fucking gorgeous.
This might very well mean I'm a pig, but what's a man to do? Between her smart mouth and her killer body, it's a lethal combination. If she were anyone else, I wouldn't hesitate to make my move.
She looks like a sea goddess.
A siren trying to lure me to my death.
Mallory has me under a spell at this moment, and I can't pull away.
She might truly be a witch because my control is damn near gone.
Starting at her feet, I lift my head slowly, taking in her long, lean legs. Not that I haven't noticed them before. They're hard to miss. This morning when we got on the plane, I had to turn toward the window so I didn't stare at them.
