I’m already having the time of my life with this girl. I’m already falling in love. I can feel it. How am I going to handle her leaving in the morning?

I guess I’m just going to have to convince her that she’s better off here with me.

Jess

Liam was right: The temperature of the pool water is perfect for tonight. But getting myself in was the hard part. Just looking at him now, though, has me still all worked up. I don’t even know if I’m going to be able to manage to cool down.

With his arms stretched out on either side of him, it’s all I can do not to stare at his enormous shoulders and arms. If there was ever a time to use the term “jacked,” it would be now.

I’ve never skinny dipped before. It’s not exactly a thing you do in New Hampshire—unless you want to freeze to death. But I have to say, the sensation is quite stimulating, especially knowing that Liam is across from me equally naked.

I wonder if he’s hard under the water. Or if it would take me going over to him and actually touching him to get him there. I don’t have any real experience in that area to know either way, of course. Can you have sex in a pool? I wonder what that would be like. Me bent over on the steps in the shallow end with him behind me, those massive hands grabbing me by the hips while he takes control?

My God, what is wrong with me? I’m never like this. Ever. This is crazy talk—crazy thoughts. But it’s not like he doesn’t want me. He clearly does. He made a comment about my “Texas hot pants,” so he’s clearly been checking out my ass, and he obviously wanted to get me naked by inviting me into the pool with him.

Why do guys always act like they’re being so sly with their little moves? Do they think we don’t know what they’re up to?

“So,” I say. I have to start talking about something to get my mind off these dirty thoughts I’m having. “Tell me more about these renovations.”

“Oh, well, I wasn’t really planning on more of those,” Liam replies. “At least, not to this place. What I’m planning on is building a farm.”

“A farm?” I ask, unable to hide the disbelief in my voice. “You’re joking, right?”

Liam cocks his head to the side and looks at me like he’s almost offended. “What do you mean? Why would I be joking?”

“I don’t know,” I say, trying to backtrack my tone. “Roughneck to farmer. It just…doesn’t seem like a natural progression.”

“Hey, maybe I’m all about going green, you know?” he asks, raising his eyebrows. “Saving the environment?”

“Are you?”

Liam laughs and shakes his head. “Kinda sorta, I guess. Really, I’m just more about having my own farm and finally getting off the derricks. Settling down.” He pauses, fixing his eyes on me. “You know, with the right woman.”

My heart does a triple backflip and does not stick the landing.

Is he saying what I think he’s saying? I’ve always had an interest in growing things, but in New Hampshire, the growing season is so short, the things I managed to grow were always only around for a couple of months max.

How incredible would it be to have actual gardens here in Texas with actual irrigation and sunshine and not have to worry about ice and snow ruining everything? And on top of that, a man who knew what he was doing, was passionate about it, and could take me into his bed every night after we had finished?

“That…that sounds like quite the vision,” I say softly.

“And what about you, Jess?” Liam asks with a gorgeous smile. “No rich fiancé on the horizon according to you. So what are your plans for the future?”

Oh boy, here comes this talk. I sigh before answering. “Well, I have to say you were kind of right before—”

“So there is a guy?” he asks quickly.

“No!” I snap. “There isn’t.” Liam seems to relax when he hears that. “But my dad does have some serious expectations of me. Expectations I’m not sure I really want anything to do with.”

Liam nods. “And you don’t know how to tell him.”

Does this guy read minds or something? “Exactly.”

“And what are those expectations? He want you to take over the family business?” Liam chuckles. “What’s your dad do? Is he the Godfather?”

“The what?” I ask, suddenly confused.

Liam frowns at me like I’m from another planet. “Michael Corleone? Al Pacino? Come on, don’t tell me you’ve never seen The Godfather.”

I shake my head. “Sorry, I don’t watch many movies.” Liam groans and puts a hand to his forehead. “But no, my dad is a lawyer, and he basically wants me to go to school and be pre-law and follow in his footsteps.”
