“Just be careful,” she adds gently. “If something doesn’t feel right, you’re allowed to walk away.”
“I know,” I say with a smile. “And I know I have you too, Aunt Nellie.”
The older lady returns my smile.
“Of course you do, sweetheart. Now, back to work,” she says as she walks over to another portrait and begins to dust it. I speed walk over to the opposite side of the room and also begin dusting up a storm.
Meanwhile, as my hands remain busy, I think about Eric’s piercing blue eyes. Just imagining them makes my heart skip a beat, and when we have children someday, I hope they have his azure gaze. My heart skips another beat as my cheeks flush because the fact is that I’d love to have Eric’s baby in my belly. I’d love to grow round with his child, and to harbor his son or daughter beneath my heart. Is that sappy? I don’t know, but I do know that I can't wait to see him tonight, and to enjoy his company. We’re spending a lot of time together now, and I’ve never felt so safe and secure before. Again, I know Aunt Nellie means the best with her warning, but I also know my lover. I’m in good hands with Eric, and no precautions are necessary.
CHAPTER 17
Eric
A foot brushes against mine underneath the dining room table, making me stiffen immediately. I want to kick it away, but it’s important to keep cool in this setting. Meanwhile, Jane winks slyly as she smiles from across the table. Fuck. Here we go again – another woman willing to do anything to become a princess. I look away from her, barely concealing my disgust because I only have eyes for one woman, and that’s Kitty.
“You’re awfully quiet, Eric,” Jane purrs while leaning forward. Lady, don’t you get it? It’s because I don’t want to talk to you.
“I guess I’m just feeling a little under the weather,” I respond in a wooden tone.
“Oh really?” she says, batting her lashes like a fiend. “Too bad you don’t have a wife to take care of you,” she lisps flirtatiously, as if that’s supposed to make me want to drop down on one knee and propose to her.
I glance at my watch to check the time. I want to get the hell out of here as soon as possible because this lunch date is fucking hell. Even worse, it was set up by my dad. Wilhelm thinks if he introduces me to enough women, I’ll break down and pick one out of the bunch.
But what my father doesn’t know is that I’m already taken. Kitty and I have been seeing each other for months now, and we’re madly in love. We've talked about getting married, but the only problem is that no one even knows we're together. I suppose that’s my fault, and I do want to introduce her to the world. But at the same time, I want to keep her to myself because once people find out, our privacy will be over for good. Really, her life as she knows it will be over for good, and I want to spare Kitty that fate for as long as possible.
Meanwhile, I’ve got to get through this lunch date, and the sooner the better. I’m just about to make some inane comment to Jane when speak of the devil, but Kitty walks into the room. My heart races as we make eye contact, but I quickly look away before Jane notices me staring at my paramour. God, Kitty’s gorgeous in that tight-fitting black and white uniform and sheer black stockings. Other women don’t even compare, and I’m surprised that the castle doesn’t burst into flames from this woman’s beauty.
I’m just about to speak to Jane again when Kitty bends over slightly, and I damn near lose it. She knows what she's doing to me, teasing me like that with that short, ruffly skirt. She smiles at me over one shoulder and my cock jerks.
“You were saying?” Jane asks, fluttering those fake lashes again.
I clear my throat.
“No, nothing,” I manage in a hoarse voice, staring straight ahead. “Um, you were telling me about your last vacation to Monaco? Where you hung out with the Crown Prince himself?”
Jane nods with a satisfied look on her face and starts rambling on and on about shopping, hanging out with the Monegasque royal family, and other such inane chatter. Meanwhile, it goes in one ear, and out the other. I merely lick my lips, shooting another quick glance in Kitty’s direction. I wish I could run up to her and pin her against the wall. Or better yet, lay her right here on this table and devour her until she screams my name while creaming into my mouth. Shit, I’m getting aroused. I turn away from Kitty because if I stare any longer, I'm bound to do every filthy thing that's running through my mind. Meanwhile, Jane reaches the end of her monologue and reaches across the table to grab my hand.
