“Come, Mase. Come in me, baby,” he growled.

I shuddered, my whole body quaking as I filled his hole, pumping everything I had in him. And just as the fiercest tremors subsided, Jake’s orgasm hit.

It took a few minutes to rejoin the land of the living. I kissed his shoulder, unthinking, and pulled out.

“Oh, Jakey…you should see this. It’s fucking incredible.”

“What?” he grunted, his voice muffled in the pillow.

“My cum in your hole.” I dipped a finger inside, turned-on all over again.

He chuckled low and deep. “You’re so gross.”

I smacked his butt and hopped off the bed. “Where’s your bathroom? I’ll get you cleaned up.”

“Thataway.”

I washed off and returned with two towels. “One for the wet spot.”

“Good call.” Jake wiped at the mess we’d made and waited for me to slide in next to him before pulling the duvet to cover us. “Are you staying?”

“Yeah. Is that okay?”

He nodded. “I don’t have any immediate neighbors so…it’s safe.”

Safe. Funny word. Nothing about us was safe.

I propped my head on my hand and studied him in the semidark room. Fuck, he was handsome. All chiseled features, a perfect nose, and a kissable mouth. Hockey players weren’t supposed to look like models. Scars and crooked smiles from copious dental work were part of the package. There was nothing crooked or out of place here. Jake was…beautiful.

Whoa.

What the fuck?

No, no.

No goopy sappy sentiments allowed. Geez, what was wrong with me?

I collapsed on my side and yawned. “Thanks. I’m not sure if I have a roommate at Denny’s old house, and I don’t want to wake anyone up.”

“Mm. So you’re here. In Elmwood.”

“I am.” I brushed my thumb against his lower lip.

He bit it, then kissed it better. “What did Eddie have to say about your sudden trip to Elmwood?”

“He was fine. Eddie’s busier than me. I’ll go home before preseason training starts. This”—I gestured between our naked bodies—“was too good an opportunity to pass up. I’m not sure when I’ll get this much unfiltered Milligan time again.”

“Unfiltered? I don’t think so,” he scoffed. “We’ll have eyes on us, and it’s going to feel weird as fuck to pretend to hate you in public.”

“You mean…you like me?” I widened my eyes comically. “For reals?”

Jake shrugged. “You’ve grown on me a little…like a wart.”

“Nice.” I pulled his thigh over mine. “We have the rest of August together. This is good.”

He went quiet for a beat. “Yeah.”

I frowned. “Hey, am I jumping the gun? We don’t have to do anything. We can—”

“Are you kidding me? Of course I want this. Maybe too much,” he rasped. “We never talked about it, and maybe we should. I mean, we’ll be okay if we’re careful, but we both know this is it. Neither of us is looking for a boyfriend or any complications. The hockey world will have a hard enough time with the idea we’re friends. Lovers? No way. It would be the end of our careers. Our stats, award-winning seasons, Stanley Cups wins would be footnotes to some salacious stories about some big love affair.”

“Ooh.” I waggled my brows. “Is that what this is? A big l-o-v-e affair. Damn, I’ve never had one of those.”

“Shut up and be serious.” Jake slugged my arm playfully. “You know what I’m saying. We can have Elmwood, but this has to be over at the end of summer.”

I hadn’t thought about it in depth, but he was right. Of course, he was right. We weren’t about to jeopardize our careers. We’d both worked hard to get where we were. We weren’t going down in some cheesy tabloid-worthy scandal. No fucking way.

“Yeah, I get it. Kind of fucked to know that it’s better for everyone to hate you in public than it is to admit…”

“Admit what?” he prompted.

I studied his full lips for a moment, then met his eyes. “Admit that maybe I was wrong about you. Maybe you’re not stuck up and full of yourself. Maybe you’re a standup guy and good friend, brother, son, human. And maybe…just maybe…you have the sweetest fucking ass in the entire universe.”

Jake barked a laugh and face-planted on his pillow. “You are so…you.”

“I know, but I don’t think you mind.” I kissed his cheek. “And this is where you admit that you were wrong about me too.”

“But was I?” he teased, lacing our fingers. “Okay, fine. You’re pretty damn cool, Mase. I’m not sure how we’ll pull this off, but I want the rest of the summer with you. If we have to pretend to hate each other…so be it. We know how we really feel, and we know what we want.”

“Sex.”

He chuckled. “Yeah, and just…this is good too.”

“Holding hands in bed like a coupla old geezers?”

“Exactly.”

I just smiled. I didn’t have a snappy comeback ’cause damn it, I agreed. Just being together was kind of amazing.

“I’m all in, but I should warn you…I’m practically required to prank your ass on day one. Be ready, Milligan.”
