“Are you off your rocker?” I chide.

“No, I need to be the first to go in. You know, to make sure the lock works.” His words register, and I can’t help but bark out a laugh.

“How is it you can be such a dickhead and then the next minute so funny?”

“Talent. Now get in here.”

He pulls me into the small restroom before I have time to protest. He’s so close in this small space, but I don’t want to move away from him at all. That pull is back between us, and it’s all-consuming.

Hands around my waist, he leans down. “We agreed nothing could happen at the office. We never said anything about away from work.” His words tickle my ear.

Why does everything he says drip with hunger and make me thirsty for him?

“Well, Mr. Cavendish, if you want to break the rules, you should kiss me now.”

He leans back and looks into my eyes. I don’t know what he sees, but his hands cup my face. The warmth of his palms feels so wonderful I want to keep his hands on me all the time.

“Sitting next to you tonight, I had to let you know that you truly are my Rae of sunshine,” he whispers and places the sweetest kiss on my forehead.

Then, as suddenly as he stepped into the room, he’s gone, and I’m left reeling from a moment I have no ability to unravel.

Raven

Why is today the longest day ever?

It’s only noon. I’m never going to make it.

Seated in the office café, I’m eating my turkey sandwich and thinking about last night. My thoughts continue to yo-yo between work and Charles. Both have me smiling like a gleeful idiot.

So many amazing things happened last night.

For work, I finally got to talk to Holly, and she’s incredible. It’s always a risk you run with talent, but it seems we hit the lotto with Holly. She had some incredible ideas to piggyback off what I shared with her, but I was admittedly distracted the whole time.

After the sweet feel of his lips on my forehead, the tension in the VIP room was excessive. The little things that happened had me keyed up for hours afterward. His hand brushed against mine and burned me to my bones. Like a moth to a flame, I’m begging for the heat again.

Something that most would think so innocent felt so intimate. My core clenched, and my body ached for more. So. Much. More.

Goose bumps spread over my arms, and my stomach dips. My thighs clench together, and my eyes dart around, hoping that nobody can tell what I’m currently feeling.

White-hot need.

Focus on anything else.

I get out my phone and send Asher a message, needing to distract myself from thoughts of Charles Cavendish. It has the intended effect. A douse of cold, killing my libido.

Thank God.

Me: You busy later? Let’s do dinner. I don’t feel like cooking.

The truth is, I’m desperate to find out what’s going on over at Bauer.

They’ve pulled some really interesting moves recently. Maybe Ash will open up, and I can figure out if he really did take my information about Summer and use it against me.

Plus, recon for Cavendish seems like a job that needs to be done, and I’m the perfect person to do it.

Not that I’ll share what I learn with Charles. I’d never do anything to jeopardize my friendship with Ash, but it would give me some insight into what they have cooking—if anything—where Diosa is concerned.

Surely his boss, and the other people working there, could easily have found out that Summer was on the market. It didn’t necessarily mean that Asher told them.

I don’t want to come right out and ask him if he’s involved in taking her away from us, just in case I’m wrong.

I really hope I am because it would kill me if he betrayed me for a job. Not that it matters whether I straight up ask or not. I’ll know when talking to him face-to-face.

I’ve known Asher for a very long time, and there is no way that he’d be able to hide anything of this magnitude from me. I’d know straight away if he was.

Asher: Obviously. I have two hot dates. I’m hoping both come back to my pad.

Me: Playboy idiot . . .

My hand hovers over my phone, trying to decipher if he’s messing with me or if he really has two girls lined up for the night. It wouldn’t be the first time Asher engaged in such behavior.

Asher: Okay, fine . . . I don’t have anything going.

Me: Why do you mess with me like that?

Asher: Maybe I want you green with jealousy.

Me: It would depend. Are they blonde or brunette?

Me: Better yet if you tell me they’re both redheads. I have a serious girl crush on that girl from Jurassic World.
