“Here you go, Hector.” The face is unfamiliar, but the voice belongs to one of my kidnappers. “This is Bowie’s.”

“Shut the fuck up,” he roars.

Bowie must be the guy who sells the people, the one who reached out to me to scare me. Thank you, idiot biker.

Hector shoves the laptop into my midsection. “Get to work and do it fast.”

“No chair or desk, not even a table?”

He grins, but instead of a blank expression, I see worry. “Let that bitch serve as inspiration to do what I ask and make it fucking snappy.” Hector leaves, and the others follow him out.

It’s just me, the laptop, and the dead girl.

Weirdest threesome ever.

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Preacher

“Why in the hell aren’t we leaving?” Gia is out there, at the mercy of the merciless Iron Kings, and I can’t think straight. All I can see is the way Kelsey looked when we rescued her and how frightened McKenna was when we got her back from Kings’ clutches. The fury Shades wore when we pulled Letty from the fiery church. “Dammit!”

A hand falls on my shoulder, and it’s Wild Man.

“We gotta be smart, man. This isn’t like with the other girls,” he says as if he can read my mind. “Gia has something he wants. No, that he needs, which means she has some time before we need to go in and bust open a few skulls.”

I nod because he’s right, but still. “Yeah, and I’m just supposed to wait and hope we get there in time?”

“Wow,” he says as if I’ve offended him. “You’re supposed to be the heart and soul, the faith of this MC, and here you are with almost no fucking faith in me. I’m hurt,” he says and clutches his chest.

I grunt, “Don’t be an idiot.”

“I’ll let you have that one because you’re worried about your girl, but you can apologize later. Come on.”

I frown and follow Wild Man back to the tables that now serve as his hacking cave. “Don’t tell me any more fucking bad news, Wild Man.”

“On the contrary,” he grins. “When Gia showed us the steps she took to steal the money for Frank, I’m not ashamed to say that I was still a little wary of her.” He sits taller, his expression one of pure defiance, almost daring me to lose my shit. “Don’t get pissed, or do, but I slipped a tracker in her purse.”

“A lot of good that will do us since she dropped her bag in the parking lot,” I say and nod toward the duffel bag sitting in the corner of the clubhouse.”

Ace shakes his head from his spot next to Wild Man. “Dude, that was her overnight bag, not her purse. Even I know that shit.”

Wild Man points at the blinking yellow dot on the screen. “That’s Gia right there.”

“You found her?” I sigh, and a deep sense of relief washes over me.

“I did. And even better, I have sound.” His dark eyes sparkle with mischief as he presses a button, and Hector’s voice is the first thing I hear.

“Last night, you stole money from me. A lot of fucking money, and you’re going to give back every single cent.”

“Shit. She was on her laptop when I came back from Church.”

“At your house?” Shades asks the question, but I know everyone is curious.

I nod. “Yes. She stayed there because she had no place to go.” Not a complete lie.

“She did more than sleep there, didn’t she?” Wild Man is wearing a shit-eating grin. “Sound man,” he says again. “I heard all the fucking and sucking, the choking. All of it, you kinky bastard.” He laughs and holds up a hand for me to smack, and reluctantly, I do.

“All right, brother! It’s about damn time you got some again.”

The guys, including Ace, clap and whistle as if I’m a teenage boy who just had his first orgasm.

“All right, guys, we have more important things at the moment.”

“I don’t know,” Coop says with a wide grin. “I mean, Kelsey is loaded, and she hasn’t just given me a seven-figure thank you for this cock.”

“Maybe your cock isn’t as good as you think,” I joke back. And it works to break some of the tension, to make sure we’re all loose and alert when Ace gives us the go-ahead.

The laughter dies, and Hector’s voice sounds again. “What the fuck is taking so goddamn long?”

Gia’s voice is shaky when she answers. “Do you know any programming languages? It’s not as simple as typing in give big money to Hector’s biker gang.”

I smile. She’s trying to be tough and hard and prove that she’s not scared, but I can hear the fear, and it’s gutting me. “Don’t be stupid, Gia.”

“Worse,” Ace growls. “She’s going to do something reckless. We need to go.”

“Talk less and type more,” Hector growls. “Unless you need a sample of what that bitch went through before she took her last breath.”
