I casually drop the giant’s head like a bowling ball allowing it to gracefully roll over to her combat boot covered feet.

Cami lowers her gaze to the unusual gift before presenting me with an adoring grin. “Thank you, half.”

Platinum instantly purrs prompting me to bow my head and stomp to communicate our pleasure over her approval.

“The mouthy griffin has been in contact. I have retrieved what was requested. He states that only the enemy remains inside and including the traitor who assisted in my young warrior’s capturing,” Dai announces to me at the same time she exits the building, computer bag swung over her shoulder like a haversack. “You may now burn it to the ground.”

My mouth opens in preparation yet in the same breath shuts.

“Were my words unclear, dragonborn?” Dai inquires prior to wiping her blade clean on the edge of the leather skirt I originally met her in. “Do you need me to speak them again? Do you need me to speak them louder?”

Rather than respond to her non-rhetorical questions, I inch forward and nudge the side of Cami.

Get on, Pint-Size.

Please.

She presses her palm gently on the tip of my snout as she smirks.

You need to learn some manners from Platinum, Beanstalk.

Agreed.

Oh, don’t stroke his ego. He’s the one that’s always so fucking pushy about shit.

Lies.

Cami doesn’t bother swallowing her snickers.

Could you please get on, mate? I need you to be closer for this.

We.

She warmly nods prior to delivering a loving pat.

Only because you asked so nicely the second time.

See.

I refrain from rolling my eyes, lower my front half to be flushed with the ground, and extend my neck for easier access. Once Cami has passed the keys back to Constantine and is safely on, she grips a ridged edge for stability so tightly that both Platinum and I can’t help but hungrily groan.

Really, you two? In the middle of combat?!

End.

And we can’t exactly help it, Pint-Size. Our necks are sensitive in both forms.

A devious giggle proceeds a mischievously stated retort.

Noted, my halves.

Halves.

Plural.

As in the acceptance of us both despite how frightening and grotesque some find our ancient side.

Launching us into the air informs the team on the ground that I’m now ready for the discussed ending. E gets into the truck with Constantine where he will direct them to the meet point with Z while Dai heads for the DUV she’ll be riding home in. One deep breath conjures the fire from inside and one long blow unleashes a plasma-like stream from end to end as we soar the length of the structure.

Between her victorious war cries and the campfire scent incessantly invading my nose I finally feel something I haven’t felt once since the death of my parents.

Peace.

Cameron

Memo to Self.

Flying on the back of your dragon husband is an aphrodisiac of advanced level proportions yet mentally moaning about it where him and his ancient dragon side can hear isn’t the safest of choices.

I think if Primal Thirst weren’t waiting around to be handled, I might’ve been a bit more terrified when we started to plummet towards the overpass.

Ptur smoothly places the DUV my mother is riding in down on the driveway but doesn’t actually land the two of us until he’s reached a huge, paved opening that resembles a helicopter landing pad. He docks with admirable adroitness and cranes his neck as low as it can go to offer me the smoothest disembarking possible.

My feet have barely finished making contact with the ground when two rough hands wind themselves lovingly around my neck. The first squeeze is covered in uncertainty almost like he can’t believe I’m really home while the next is executed with unease.

Desperation.

Seeing the platinum shade to the gray stare I love almost non-exist has me planting my hands on his suit covered hips. “You were worried.”

“I…had…my concerns. Yes.”

“I see.” The tone I take is the teasing one he hates that he loves. “You were really worried.”

“Fuck yes,” Ptur promptly caves, frame contorting forward for his forehead to lovingly rest against mine. “I was fucking terrified, Pint-Size.” Fear floods his grasp. Forces him to clutch on even harder. Shut his eyes in agony. “I love you.” More anxiety crashes over me damn near drowning my opposing adrenaline filled feelings. “You are my reason for existing.”

I relocate my hands to his forearms on a soft command. “Eyes, Beanstalk.”

And just like that they’re open.

Held captive by mine.

“I swear to you, I’m a lot tougher than I look.”

The corner of his lip threatens to kick upward.

“More importantly, I’m also a lot harder to kill than I used to be.”

“Our bonding helps.” His thumbs deliver an affectionate stroke. “Perk of our fating.”

“Is it to counter the fact I now have a ‘fuck off other dudes’ smell?”

Both amusement and arrogance brighten his gaze.

“Anything else you’ve neglected to mention?”

There’s a small wince that’s followed by the slow lowering of his jaw. “Well-”
