“They would love that. Also, Dad mentioned wanting to go dancing.”

Greer giggled. “We can go to Brew’s Place. A local band is playing there this weekend. They dropped off their fliers at Turning Pages the other day.”

“I saw that.”

Chewing on her lip, she looked away and then back at me. “So, I won’t see you for a couple of days?”

“If I can manage to get a good amount of writing done, I might be able to swing by tomorrow evening. Are you working until closing?”

A wide smile moved over her face. “I do have one of my part-time employees asking for more hours. I’ll see if she can work until closing tomorrow with Candace.”

I felt my own cheeks tighten as I smiled. “Then, I’ll pack a bag and plan on staying the night.”

“Sounds good,” Greer said, kissing me once more before she stepped out of my arms and headed toward the front door.

I walked her down to her car and kissed her again when she was in and buckled up. “Be careful driving. See you tomorrow.”

She winked. “Sweet dreams, Mr. Higgins.”

Greer

“Okay, spill it.”

I glanced over at Willa and frowned. “What do you mean?”

She leaned against the bookshelf and raised one brow. “You haven’t been able to wipe that smile off your face since I walked into the place. And I know for a fact my presence is not the reason for your happy mood, nor is this crowd of women all here to get their historical romance on.”

Glancing around the bookstore, I took in everyone who was still lined up, waiting to get their books signed by Molly, the author visiting Turning Pages this evening. Candace had taken over for me, standing next to the author and asking readers for their names and then writing them on small sticky notes so that Molly could personalize their books.

When I saw that everything was under control, I caught Candace’s eyes and motioned that I was heading into my office. She gave me a quick nod and then went right back to talking to another customer.

I pulled Willa through the historical section and into my office. I clicked the door shut and turned to face her. I had been dying to talk to someone other than Candace about Hudson. And now that I finally had Willa alone, I decided to get right to the point.

“Do you believe in love at first sight?”

She laughed. “I suppose so. Why?”

I chewed on my lip and watched as the realization hit her. Her mouth fell open and she gasped. “Wait. Greer, are you saying you’re in love?”

I gave a one-shoulder shrug. “I’m not sure, but I feel like I could be. I feel so different now that Hudson’s in my life. Happier, lighter on my feet. I feel more relaxed than I’ve been in years. I’ve actually left work early a few times. I’m planning on taking Saturday off—and I took most of the day off last Saturday! I don’t even know who I am anymore!”

Willa gasped in mock surprise. “Oh my gawd, you’re taking time off! How could you?”

“Ha ha. Willa, I’m serious. When I’m with Hudson, I feel…”

“Complete?” she asked, when my own voice trailed off.

“Yes! Like a part of me had been missing, and then he walked into Turning Pages and that missing puzzle piece was suddenly found. I can’t stop thinking about him.”

“But what about the fact that he’s from New York and won’t be staying here?”

I looked away before rounding my desk and sitting in the chair. “We decided we’ll cross that bridge when we have to. But he’s already said he doesn’t have to live in New York. He could live anywhere.”

Her brows rose. “That’s a pretty big bridge to cross and not make any plans for. Especially for you, Greer. You’re such a planner.”

I blew a rush of air out from my lips. “I know, it’s not like me at all. But I kind of like this new me. I’m not overthinking things.”

“You’re letting them go where they go?” she asked with a smile.

“Yes. Do you think that’s stupid of me?”

Willa shook her head. “No, I don’t think it’s stupid. If Hudson makes you feel something you’ve never felt before, then why shouldn’t you pursue it? If it’s meant to be, you’ll find a way.”

I nodded. “A part of me feels like I’ve known him my whole life. Then there’s a small part that thinks I’m moving too fast.”

“How long will he be in town?” Willa asked as she took a seat in one of the chairs in front of my desk.

“Maybe another few weeks. It really depends on how much writing he gets done.”

A smirk spread over her face and her blue eyes lit up. “And is he getting much work done?”

I felt my cheeks burn. “He does when I’m here at the bookstore. Not so much when I’m with him.”
