This has been like learning to date my wife all over again. However, now we have a son to think about. With no babysitter, I have to be a little creative.
I walk up behind Lex and wrap my arms around her waist. She’s holding up the pink bathing suit I bought for her. Leaning into her ear, I whisper. “You want to change and meet me at the Jacuzzi?”
She glances over her shoulder. “Yeah, give me a minute to freshen up.”
I peck her lips before I release her and head down to the Jacuzzi to wait. I still need to get the champagne and glasses. I have some chocolate-covered strawberries waiting as well.
I get everything out to the Jacuzzi and take my clothes off then settle inside the water. Looking up, I notice how bright the stars are. It’s a perfect night for this.
Checking the app to make sure AJ is still fast asleep, I then nod to myself and pull up the playlist I made for tonight. Once Dru Hill’s “These Are the Times” is playing through the outside speakers, I pour two glasses and sit sipping at mine as I wait. When Lex comes through the doors, a smile comes to my face. Damn, my wife is breathtaking.
Lex is thick in all the right places. That pink one-piece with the well-placed cutouts complements her figure. It’s my type of thing.
Enough to tease but not show it all off at once. When she smiles, I’m thrown back to when we first married, and I’d come home to that smiling face. I allow my gaze to roll over her from head to toe.
I’m digging the two pigtail braids. They match the sweet smile.
“Okay, babe. I see you,” she says as she tilts her head and studies me.
“Come here.”
She saunters over to the Jacuzzi and climbs in gracefully. I keep my eyes locked on hers as the song says pretty much how I feel. We’ve made love and as much as I’d love to devour her now, there’s something else I need.
I couldn’t tell her what if she asked, but tonight I’m hoping to figure it out. We’ve been growing closer to who we used to be.
I want to allow the mood to tell us what’s still missing. What my heart is asking for. As if already understanding this, she straddles my lap and places her forehead to mine.
“This was such a romantic night. Thanks for including our son. That made it more special for me,” she breathes.
I put my glass down and wrap my arms around her. “This is how I wanted to spend our life. This is how things would have been if you weren’t stolen from me.”
She pulls back and looks me in the eyes as she reaches to brush her thumb against my brow. I close my eyes and tug her against my chest to hold her tight and bury my face in her neck. That’s it, that’s what I needed.
Everything in me settles. That one gesture calms my entire world. I never realized how much that single action meant.
Suddenly I can remember my mother and father doing similar acts. I think that’s why it’s always brought me comfort when Lex does it, it’s a way for me to know she cares.
“Ant, babe, are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Everything will be fine.”
Chapter 41
Checking In
Alexis
I sit at the table while AJ eats his breakfast. He has syrup all over his hands and face as he swings his feet happily. Ant walks in and comes over to cup under my chin and tug my head back. Then he drops a kiss on my lips.
“Me need kiss too, Daddy,” AJ sings then puckers his lips and tips his own head back.
Ant chuckles and moves over to AJ to give him his kiss. AJ smacks a big sticky kiss on his father’s cheek. Ant palms his forehead and kisses his nose.
“I need you to be good for Mommy today.” He then turns to me. “I need to head into Vander. You two gonna be okay without me?”
“We’ll be fine. Ven is coming up today.”
He nods. “Good, I won’t be long, but I have a feeling my uncle plans to send a few guys up here anyway.”
“Is that necessary? Won’t that call attention to where I am?”
“Some things haven’t been sitting right with me about all of this. I believe you and I believe you thought this was a legit threat, but I’m not sold.
“They have information, yes, but I don’t think they have the means to use it. Don’t worry about anyone knowing where you are. They’ll have to go through me to get to you and that’s not happening.”
“Okay, Ox,” I say with a smile.
He grins and shrugs. “I guess I have lived up to the name. Call me if you need me.”
