Lincoln handed Jessie a wrench. “Fucking hate that I can’t do shit right now,” Lincoln grumbled, a scowl twisting his handsome features. “I fucking feel fine, Jessie.”

“Not doing shit until the doctor clears you,” Jessie told him. “Now stop bitching about it.”

I looked up when a familiar ’69 Camaro rode onto the garage parking lot. I stood up from my stool, my eyes narrowed at the driver. I locked away every bit of emotion except anger, knowing it would keep me strong and keep me grounded.

It was time to go into survival mode. It was times like this that I was glad I was familiar with surviving.

Jayden slid out of the driver’s seat and smirked at me. Jessie and Lincoln both looked over, and then Jessie cursed, dropping the wrench he was using. “West, get the fuck over here,” Jessie barked as he stormed over to me.

“You’ve got fucking balls,” I snarled at my ex, ignoring Jessie, who was seething next to me.

“I’m simply here as a patron, you know, since I heard this was the best garage in town and all.” I glared at him. His eyes moved to Lincoln when my man stepped up to my back, his hands resting on my hips protectively. “How’s the head?” Jayden smirked.

Lincoln stayed silent, something he was good at. Lincoln was a man of few words in a confrontation. He chose to observe and then act.

It probably made him a hell of a good soldier when he served in the Marines.

“What the fuck are you doing here?” Jessie growled at Jayden as he stood next to me.

“Thought you could take a look at my engine,” Jayden told him, but there was a slight tick to his lips as he spoke, giving him away. He was lying out of his ass. He had something planned.

“Don’t,” I warned Jessie as I kept my eyes locked on Jayden. “He’s lying to you.”

Jayden narrowed his eyes at me. “All of these years later, and you still haven’t learned to shut the fuck up, have you?” he asked me.

“All of these years later, and you still won’t fucking give up, will you?” I snarkily retorted.

“You owe me,” he growled.

“She doesn’t fucking owe you shit,” Jessie snapped at him. “I’d advise you to fucking leave, Falcon.”

Jayden laughed. “I’d tread carefully, Harold,” Jay retorted, calling Jessie by his last name, too. “I have something that will send your precious little whore to prison for the rest of her life.” Lincoln growled at the sound of him calling me a whore.

“Like what?” I snarled at him. “You don’t have shit on me, Jayden.”

He arched an eyebrow at me. “I don’t?” he asked coolly. I bristled, alarms blaring in my head. Red flags were sprouting up everywhere. “Do you remember the night you got arrested and sent to juvie?” he asked me. How the fuck could I forget? It was the night I found him balls deep inside of my mother. “We were at the race track a couple of hours before that,” he reminded me. All of the blood drained from my face. “Orlando was going to win that race if you didn’t fuck with his engine. Remember that, sweetheart?”

I felt sick. “You didn’t,” I breathed. My heart was pounding so hard in my chest that it hurt.

“I did,” he confirmed, a smirk tilting his lips. “I recorded it. Thought it was hot that my girl loved me so much that she risked being locked up for the rest of her life just so I could win that race.”

Jessie took a threatening step towards him, but I gripped his bicep, keeping him with me. “Don’t,” I begged him. “He holds my freedom in his hands.” Literally.

Lincoln’s hands tightened on my hips. “What the fuck do you want with West?” Lincoln asked him.

“Need her to do some work for me again,” Jayden said, crossing his arms over his chest. “At the tracks and to do my runs. She refuses, and I’ll blast that fucking video everywhere, and you can say goodbye to your bitch.”

“You’re a sick son of a bitch,” Jessie growled. “She was a fucking kid then. You took advantage of the fact that she was so desperate to have someone love her and take care of her that she would do anything to keep that.”

I cast my eyes down because Jessie wasn’t wrong. And it was pitiful. Pitiful and fucking sad.

Jayden shrugged, ignoring Jessie to lock his eyes on mine. “Well, sweetheart? What’s it going to be?”

I refused to do his dirty work anymore. I’d rather spend the rest of my life in prison. I wouldn’t accidentally kill anyone else. I wouldn’t run drugs anymore.

“Leak the video,” I snarled at him, defiantly tilting my chin up at him.

He shrugged before he opened his car door. I felt like throwing up. “Prison can’t hide you, sweetheart,” he reminded me before he slid into his car and pulled out of the parking lot.
