“Are you okay?” I ask softly, pulling him away from the crowd of well-wishers, needing a moment of privacy with him. I’m nervous—Benedict hasn’t said a word since I dropped the news, and I need to know what he’s feeling.
His eyes, glassy with unshed tears, lock onto mine as if searching for words he can’t quite find. He’s never been one to get emotional, but right now, I can see the flood of feelings he’s barely holding back. His hand trembles slightly as he reaches out to cradle my face, his thumb gently brushing away a tear that slips down my cheek.
“I’ve never been happier than I am at this moment right now,” he finally says, his voice thick with emotion. His tears finally spill over, and I can see the joy, the disbelief, the overwhelming love radiating from him as he pulls me into his arms. His embrace is firm, filled with a depth of feeling I’ve never seen in him before, and I bury my face into his chest, holding him close.
“I love you,” he whispers into my hair, his voice cracking. “You’ve given me everything I never thought I’d have. A family... this.” He pulls back just enough to look into my eyes, his hands moving to my stomach, where our future is growing. “You, me, Nate... and now this little one. I don’t think I could ask for more.”
Tears flow freely from both of us, but they’re tears of happiness, of gratitude for the life we’ve found together. Around us, our friends and family are still celebrating, but in this moment, it feels like the world has faded away, and it’s just us—our little family, and the future we’re about to build together.
