“You think that fucker’s hurting her?”
“I don’t know…but she never comes around anymore.”
“I know,” he says, choking up. Jase and Jax both love their sister so much. “She doesn’t even visit the shop anymore.”
“It’s time we speak to Jax and figure this out. I have a feeling Quinn’s going to need us.”
Jase pulls me into his arms and kisses my forehead. “We’ll talk to Jax tomorrow. I love you.”
“Love you more.”
“Want to take a test?” he asks, nodding toward the box with two more tests inside.
“I’m scared,” I admit. “I shouldn’t be. I have three amazing, healthy kids. I have a husband who loves me. A career I love. My mom is my best friend. I am so blessed. I shouldn’t want more.”
Jase looks down at me. “First of all, you never have to be scared, Dimples. I’m right here.” He kisses the tip of my nose. “Second of all, there’s nothing wrong with wanting more.”
“What if us not being able to get pregnant is fate’s way of saying fuck you to me?”
Jase chuckles softly.
“I’m serious,” I say, “I never wanted to have kids and now that I want a house full of them, we can’t get pregnant.”
“I’m pretty sure me knocking you up with twins shows fate isn’t out to get you.”
“I think if I’m not pregnant this time, we should stop trying.”
“If that’s what you want, then that’s what we’ll do.” He hands me a pregnancy test.
After I go pee and dip the test into the urine, I set it on the sink then walk away. Three minutes later, Jase stands and looks at it. He turns to face me, his features giving nothing away.
“Well?” I ask. “Tell me.”
“It’s a good thing you insisted we buy this ridiculously huge house because in nine months, we’re going to be needing another one of the rooms.”
I jump into Jase’s arms, and he holds me tight, kissing me like I’m his entire world. “Thank you, Jase,” I whisper against his lips.
“For what?”
“For seeing what’s below the surface. For seeing the beauty in my chaos. For seeing me.”
The End!
