“Well…”
“Spit it out!” I laugh.
“Okay!” she replies, scooting closer. She takes my hand in hers and looks deep into my eyes. “Baby, I’m pregnant.”
My heart leaps.
I’m already hot, but a heat rushes through my entire body as I look at her smiling face.
“You’re joking.”
“Nope.” She shakes her head.
“And you’ve known for how long?” I ask, then shake my head at my own stupidity. “Wait, you just said one month. So you’re one month pregnant?”
She nods. “Yes. Are you…excited?”
“Excited? Are you kidding? I’m thrilled!”
“Yay!” she exclaims.
I take Rain into my arms and kiss her long and deep. And then we’re all over each other, rolling around in bed, laughing like a couple of goof-balls. It’s what we’ve been waiting for, what we’ve been discussing for a while now. We both knew we wanted to have kids, but since Rain was building her career, it just wasn’t the right time. But with her recent success, we decided it was okay for her to go off birth control and we would just see what happened.
“What an incredible day, huh?” I smile, brushing her hair back so nothing is blocking her gorgeous face from me.
She nods enthusiastically. “I would say so.”
I feel myself swelling with love again and roll her over onto her back and slip into her again.
She gasps, and I wrap her up in my arms and make love to her–my love, my wife, the woman who saved me from my darkness and despair and showed me how to move on with my life.
My Rain…
And eight months later, we celebrate the birth of our first baby boy, Graham Carnell.
