“How is she?” Mason softly asked as he toed his boots off. Winter had come and was here to stay, and when Copper had offered for us to stay here instead of the Texas Charter, offering us the chance to pick up cash in Kyle’s automotive shop, we took it with both hands.

Being on the road was too dangerous now, especially since Macie was due any day now.

Yeah… we’d accomplished that. When Macie had first informed us that her period was a week late, I’d freaked the fuck out. I didn’t want kids. Didn’t want to be tied down to one place. It was the reason I was nomad. Mason had taken the news a lot better than I had and had gone out to buy her a pregnancy test, and I’d locked myself in the motel bathroom to fucking have a full-blown panic attack.

I hadn’t let Macie into the bathroom, and Mason had busted the door down when he got back before holding me tight and helping me breathe through it. Poor Macie had silently sobbed herself to sleep while Mason had comforted me, and then, I’d felt like major shit. Because she’d needed us, but I’d been too lost in my head to even function enough for myself, much less be what she needed.

And when she told us she didn’t expect us to settle down with one of the clubs, that she didn’t want to settle down in one spot, I felt like even more shit.

I’d thought this baby meant the end of being a nomad. But it wasn’t.

And I was a fucking idiot for even thinking so. I should have known Macie wouldn’t want the same. Because she’d fallen in love with this life as much as we had.

“She’s fine,” I assured him. She was damn near ready to pop, but she had a little less than two weeks until her due date. Penny, Copper’s wife, had already hooked us up with her midwife, so when Macie went into labor, we had a trusted midwife to deliver our baby. Apparently, she’d delivered not only Penny and Copper’s twins, but she’d delivered all the children in the club except for Damon and Cassie’s oldest, since she came before Cassie and Damon got their second chance at a happily ever after.

“No discomfort?” he asked. With Macie being so close to her due date, we knew an orgasm could trigger labor, but Macie’s midwife had assured us that even if Macie did go into labor now, she would be fine and so would the baby.

“Not that I know of.”

“I keep worrying we’ll send her into labor,” Mason confessed as he eased onto the bed in front of her. Sometimes, I ended up in the middle of him and Macie, and sometimes, he ended up between us, but most of the time, Macie was the center of our sandwich, especially as she drew closer and closer to her due date. I knew carrying our little boy was making her body ache in ways she wasn’t used to, and sometimes while we were laying down, one of us could keep her belly lifted, which took the strain off her back.

She was getting more and more miserable as time passed. And while I knew our lives would definitely be changing once our little monster was here, I was excited for it. Sure, we’d be stopping more as our little boy needed feedings and diaper changes, but the three of us were a team, and we’d make it work.

As it was, we’d already bought a trailer to attach to Macie’s SUV so one of us could drive the cage so she could rest. She insisted things wouldn’t change and she wouldn’t need the extra help, but Mason and I both knew she would.

Hell, we all would. But it’d be worth it.

“I think you did,” Macie suddenly mumbled.

We looked down at her. Mason propped up on his elbow, his hand moving down to cradle her belly. His eyes widened. “Fuck, little one, how long has your belly been hard?” he demanded.

“Only the second time so far,” she said. “Last one was probably a few minutes ago. Need to start timing them.”

“Fuck, okay,” Mason grumbled. He snatched his phone off the nightstand. As soon as her contraction passed, he started the stopwatch on his phone. Macie turned her head as much as she could to look at me, so I propped myself up, helping her see me better. I wanted her as comfortable as possible for this.

“You okay?” she softly asked, worry flickering in her gaze. Couldn’t blame her. I had been the one to have a fucking panic attack at the mere news of her period being late. A pregnancy hadn’t even been confirmed yet on the damn piss stick.

“I’m okay,” I promised her, a soft smile tilting my lips. I cupped her cheek and leaned down to softly press my lips to hers. “We’re in this together. All three of us,” I reminded her. Cupping her belly, I winked. “Besides, maybe after all this is—” Her belly hardened again, and she winced. Mason quickly stopped the timer, wincing.
