I’d gotten the RV out of necessity after my building had gone caput.

Just because I had it, didn’t mean I could drive it.

Maybe with time… but I highly doubted it.

The RV was temporary, too. Something my insurance had covered in the short term since there weren’t any other places nearby I could rent out.

They’d dropped the damn thing off in my parking lot and expected me to know what to do with it from there.

Needless to say, I was still learning.

“Etienne?” Wake’s eyebrows went up practically to his hairline. “What?”

“Etienne,” I repeated. “He said he was your friend. Was he not?”

Wake waved off my worry. “No, he is. It’s just that he was still in prison the last time I talked to him.” His eyes went hard. “Baby, we need to figure out what the hell we’re going to do about your utter lack of regard for yourself. You didn’t know him.”

He was right.

But the way he’d talked about Wake, and how he’d spent the last five years of his life with him… well, I’d trusted him blindly. Nobody talked about their life in prison so openly unless they’d come to terms with it. At least, from what my understanding about the situation was, they didn’t.

“I’ll try not to trust people that talk about seeing your penis and your ass in prison,” I said.

His eyebrows hiked up once again. “What?”

I grinned then as I took the T-shirt I was wearing off, leaving me in only a tank top and short shorts that were hiked so high up my legs from all the moving we’d been doing, that my vagina was practically eating them.

His eyes traveled down my body as I explained my cryptic comment.

“He was talking about you. What you’d said during your time imprisoned. Telling him that you wanted a hot, curvy woman. He said that was the first thing you were going to look for when you got out.” I tilted my head slightly to the side. “And he said you found it.”

Wake’s lips twitched up at one side. “I sure did.”

I bit the side of my lip before saying, “I know this is new and all, but maybe we should talk about expectations when we’re ‘pretending’ to do this real dating thing.”

His eyes darkened. “We’re not pretending. We’re doing this real dating thing. You just can’t seem to comprehend that we are.” He paused. “And before you ask, the reason he knew I wanted a curvy redhead was because you’d come to see me, and you were all that I could think or talk about for weeks. Literally, you were on the top of my to-do list the moment I got out. I’d been all set to find you, but our situations are a bit abnormal. That, and I didn’t want to bring any attention to you while you did what you had to do.”

While I killed a US senator that I could go to prison for life for.

That was actually really sweet of him to stay away.

“Wake…” I hesitated.

“And if you’re wondering, no. I was able to not have sex for years. I could wait a little bit longer to do it with you when you were ready,” he answered.

My mouth fell open. “That’s a long time to wait.”

“Honey,” he said quietly. “The men that say they ‘can’t wait’ and get it from somewhere else aren’t really men. Trust me when I say, if a woman is worth waiting for, they’ll wait. All day long. Months. Years. You don’t do that to a good woman and sleep well at night.”

That actually made me tear up.

I used the hem of my tank to wipe away the sweat and one single tear that’d managed to seep out of my eyelid, then watched as his eyes heated even more.

“You’re not wearing a bra.”

I tilted my head slightly. “Actually, I kind of am. It’s this weird thing…”

I showed him the stupid bra I’d seen in an ad on social media of all places.

“It looks like a headband with bra pads on it. But it smooshes and lifts them up so well that I thought I’d give it a try. It’s lasted all day, and even through us moving,” I explained.

“Ahh,” he said as his eyes took everything in. “That’s pretty impressive. No offense or anything, but you have some big tits. I wouldn’t think something that simple and easy could hold them up.”

I started to laugh, then lowered my shirt back to where I was hiding my breasts from him, then managed to take the bra off to show him.

His eyes heated even more when his gaze snagged on my nipples through my shirt.

“I could go braless,” I said. “I do it all the time, actually. But I try not to do that at work, because it makes people uncomfortable.”

He reached down and adjusted himself. “Uncomfortable. Yes.”
