But finally, Sansa texted me this morning and asked if we could sit down and chat. That text threw me into a tizzy, as embarrassing as it is to admit. At first, I was relieved to see her number pop up in my messages, and for a brief moment, my mind cleared. But now, I’m a mess again. What if she says no? What if she’s decided to leave me to my own devices? Then I’m fucked, that’s what.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. Sansa will be coming by my office this afternoon, and we’ll have our chat. I managed to get a decent amount of work done this morning, but as 2 p.m. nears, my heart begins to race again. Then, Elise pings.
“Your two o’clock is here,” she announces through the intercom.
I clear my throat before answering. “Thanks, ask her to come in.”
With that, there’s utter silence. I can hear the blood rushing in my veins, and my pupils literally dilate, waiting for the beautiful girl. Then, a dainty knock sounds before the door slowly squeaks open. Sansa steps in, lovely and lush.
“Hi Brent,” she murmurs with a sweet smile.
“Sansa, good to see you again. Come on in. Please, make yourself comfortable.” I gesture to the chair opposite mine. “Can I offer you a drink?” She shakes her head.
“Oh, no. It’s far too early in the day for that for me. I still have a ton of things to get to this afternoon, so definitely no alcohol,” she responds. But then her voice stops when she sees the view. “Oh wow, this is a really nice office you have. Oh my god, is that the Freedom Tower? I don’t know how you get any work done with a view like this!” she exclaims.
“If you think this one is nice, you should see the CEO’s suite,” I say with a playful grin. “I’m just an Executive Vice President. But sweetheart, is that what you’re here to discuss today? About helping me land the CEO position?”
She swallows before looking down.
“Yes, about that…” she begins. The gorgeous brunette shifts in her seat, uncrossing her legs and recrossing them to the other side. I can’t help but take the opportunity to admire her openly. Sansa looks sexy in a business skirt suit, even if it’s professional attire. There’s a loose bow tied at the neck of her frilly blouse, contrasting with the sharp lines of her blazer. Of course, nothing can hide her curvy figure, however, and my mouth waters as she crosses and uncrosses her legs again, flashing a bit of pale thigh.
But this is about business, and I swallow firmly before speaking.
“Have you made a decision?” I ask in a deep voice. My heart’s racing, even if on the outside, I look composed. She nods.
“I’ve decided,” she begins in a slow tone. I watch her bosom rise and fall as she takes a deep breath. “I’ve decided I am going to accept your proposal, Mr. Carson. I will become your fake fiancée in exchange for a two million dollar investment in my business.” I let out a quiet sigh of relief, suddenly realizing I’d been holding my breath. But then Sansa winks. “That is the answer you were looking for, isn’t it?” she questions me playfully. I nod, suddenly grateful for this woman.
“Yes, it is. Thank you, sweetheart. I’m glad you’ve decided to accept my proposal because we’re going to make an amazing couple.”
“You mean an amazing fake couple, right?” she asks, one brow quirked playfully.
“You’re right,” I nod. “A great fake couple. But all the same, a great couple nonetheless.” My heart is leaping with joy, and I can’t contain my mirth.
“What now?” she asks, leaning forward in her seat. I smile because this is a moment I’ve genuinely been looking forward to.
“Well, sweetheart, as my fiancée you need to be fittingly bedecked. And I have just the thing.” Reaching into my desk drawer, I pull out a small blue velvet box. Then, I walk around the desk before kneeling beside Sansa on the carpet.
“Brent, you don’t need to,” she begins, but I merely shake my head. “Sansa,” I growl, popping the lid of the box open to reveal an enormous diamond ring. “Will you become my wife?” I ask simply. She goes silent, her eyes wide.
“I can’t Brent,” she says in a choked voice.
With that, I shoot her a puzzled look.
“But why not?”
“It’s … well, it’s huge! It’s such a beautiful ring,” she says with tears trembling in her eyes. “I can’t take that.”
But I shake my head, removing the diamond from the box and gently sliding it onto her left ring finger. It glints beautifully under the sun, shooting rays through the office.
“You’re going to be the wife of a very wealthy man, sweetheart. It’s only fitting that you have an appropriate engagement ring, and it looks perfect on you.”
