I nod.
“I know,” I say in a gentle voice. “And it’ll happen for you too, Sierra. Promise. Oh wait a sec,” I say. “I have to go because Rowan’s coming back. Talk later?”
She nods.
“Yes, absolutely. I’ll let you go. Tell him I said hi and ask if he has any friends for me!”
I laugh again.
“I will. Love you girlie. Don’t be a stranger.”
I hung up and watched with avid eyes as my handsome boyfriend comes out of the ocean, rising from the sea like Poseidon himself. His abs are chiseled perfection, and his shoulders broad. The water clinging to his chest made me want to lick it off, and the glowing tan of Hawaii has turned Rowan’s skin a deep bronze. He resembles a god, and I was going to take in every second of it.
“Hey honey,” he growls, sitting next to me on the sand. “How are you?” Then, my man puts his head on my growing baby bump and rubs it while he listened for a little bit. “And how are you, little person? How are you doing today?”
I laugh gently because Rowan loves to talk to our baby. We decided not to find out the gender and as a result, our infant purchases have been yellow or green.
“The baby enjoys the beach,” I said while stroking Rowan’s black strands. A kick pressed against my stomach then, and Rowan laughed.
“Yeah, he does. He’s going to be a surfer like his dad, did I mention?”
I grin.
”Or maybe she’ll be a technology guru, also like her dad,” I argued.
My boyfriend looks pleased.
“Absolutely. Man, I can’t wait to meet our little one. I had an amazing dream last night where our daughter looked exactly like you, with long blonde hair and big blue eyes. How perfect would that be? My daughter and wife, both blonde angels.”
I go still then, the air evaporating from my lungs.
“Your wife?” I manage to stammer.
Rowan nods and suddenly lifts his head to look into my eyes. He takes my hands in his own, resting them on my big belly.
“Marry me, Natalie Miller,” he growls. “Make me the happiest man on Earth, honey.” Then, he pulls out a blue velvet box and gets up on one knee, still holding my hand in his own.
“Natalie, you are my person. My everything. The woman I’ve dreamed about since I was a boy, but didn’t think existed in real life. I want you, and our child, to be with me forever, so will you marry me?”
My mouth went dry as he popped open the box, revealing a beautiful diamond on a simple silver band. “I love you, Natalie Miller,” he continues in a hoarse voice, his blue eyes flashing with emotion. “I knew I loved you long before this moment. I knew I loved you before you told me you were pregnant, and to be honest, I probably knew I loved you the first day when we met. You’re amazing and funny and sweet and sexy as hell, honey. Please make me the happiest man alive and marry me.”
Tears brim in my eyes as I nod.
“Yes,” I whisper. “Yes, I’d like that.”
With that, Rowan slipped the ring on my finger and I stared, my eyes wide. It looked so perfect, as if it had always belonged on my hand. Rowan thought so too because he lifted my palm to his lips and kissed it tenderly, his blue gaze brimming with emotion.
“I adore you, honey,” he stated again in a rough voice. “Forever.”
I echoed his sentiments, staring into the handsome face of the man I love.
“I adore you too,” I whisper. “Forever.”
Then our lips meet as my heart soars because in this man’s arms, I know I’ve found home. It doesn’t matter where we are: New York, Hawaii, or even Antarctica. All that matters is that we have each other, and so long as we’re together, life will be nothing but sheer bliss from here on out.
