Then the words fall from my mouth before I have time to stop them. “If you’re going to talk to our baby like that, I don’t know if I want you around him or her.”
I never thought I’d see a man stumped. But he is. His mouth falls open for a long moment, and I’m pretty sure he’s stopped breathing. Seconds tick by, and the only sound I can hear is the thrum of my pulse in my ears.
When he finally says something, it’s only one word. “What?”
I want to giggle, but I refrain. “You heard me.”
Cathal rushes to me and drops to his knees in front of me. His hands hold my stomach, even though I’m far from showing, and he lays his ear against me.
“I’m sorry wee one,” he whispers softly. “But I’m a biker, and I’m goin’ ta curse like a feckin’ sailor. Best tell ye ma she’ll need ta get used to it.”
My heart pitter-patters against my ribs at the sweetness of the moment. The bedroom door flies open, and Rebel stops dead in his tracks when he sees the scene in front of him. His mouth drops open for a split second before he curses, “Shite.”
“What the fuck do ye want?” Monster doesn’t turn to look at his VP, and I’m aware that he’s still holding onto my stomach.
My cheeks heat with a blush when Rebel looks at me and smiles.
“Good lord, would both of you stop cursing like that?” I tell them while shaking my head.
“I’m sorry for bursting in, just wanted to confirm the next shipment is coming in tonight. I wanted to make sure Racer and Sully will be going with me.” Those olive-green eyes that remind me of a serpent’s flick between us.
“Aye, that’s right,” Monster says. “Now feck off.” Rebel disappears quickly and shuts the door behind him. The moment we’re alone, Cathal looks up at me. “This is perfect. Our lives may not be perfect, and they certainly didn’t start out that way, but this wee one will have everything he or she wants.”
“I’m not spoiling her,” I bite out.
The glint in Monster’s eyes tells me he may enjoy having a daughter. He’ll probably shoot every boy who tries to date her. And I’m pretty sure she’ll have her dad wrapped around her finger.
“Her?” he questions, his dark brow arching as he regards me with a smile.
“I don’t know.” I shrug. It’s a hunch, but this is all new to me, so I may be way off base. “Let’s just call it intuition. I may be wrong. It could be a mini version of you.”
“Ach, aye, now that could be grand too. We’ll have to just keep tryin’ if it’s not.” This time, he waggles his eyebrows, which in turn has me rolling my eyes.
“Of course you’ll want to spend all the time trying,” I tease him as I head for the bedroom.
He follows close behind, and I know that no matter what happens, our family is growing and there is an abundance of love between us. Our home is overflowing with people who we trust, and who offer their loyalty. Not because they’re forced to, but because they want to.
And nothing can take that away from us.
They may try, but they’ll have a biker army to fight.
Now all we need to do is find Callia.
BONUS SCENE
REBEL
Working closely with Tye has kept my mind busy. I didn’t want to think about what would happen to Callia when I realised she was gone. Her choice to go with Bragan still doesn’t make sense to me. The woman may not be mine, because I’m too much of a feckin’ eejit to tell her how I feel, but it doesn’t stop me worryin’ about her.
It’s been years since she came to live at the clubhouse, since she became part of the family I’d chosen for myself. And in all that time, she was the only one who could make me feel anything. It was a protective need that would rear its head the moment she was in danger. But it was also desire, the attraction that coursed through my veins when I was close to her.
“This is feckin’ frustratin’,” Tye bites out as he shoves the mouse away from him. The sleek black desk is scratched by the thick silver bracelet he always wears. This is getting to him as much as it’s getting to me.
“You’ll find something,” I tell him, my hand on his shoulder offers a squeeze of reassurance.
The pressure is on us all, but Tye feels it more than others. He’s the only one who can do what he’s doing. While we can all kill, it takes a special person to be able to understand the coding he’s reading.
“Your confidence in me is nice, but I can’t feckin’ find anythin’.”
