I groan, just thinking about the nut pain from that night. “I hope not the nuts. But if you want to get out the electric shaver….”
I know I’m in for a good laugh. I can feel it coming. The humor is bubbling up in both of us, and it’s not going to be long before we’re out here on the deck sans burgers and laughing like a bunch of loons while our family chows down inside mega big time. Some people might say we’ve been out in the wilderness for too long, but no. It’s just us. We’d be this crazy in the city too. Crazy awesome, of course.
Azalea finally delivers the goods. She can barely keep a straight face. “Nah, getting rid of it would be a crime. Winter is going to be here sooner than we know, and everyone knows it gets dang cold in Canada. Having a built-in fur coat is a great thing.”
“Don’t forget that we have a fireplace to curl up in front of with it, just like you once said. My good old bearskin rug.”
It only takes a few seconds before we’re both slapping our thighs, bent over double, and laughing like…well, like the loons I mentioned. As we go inside, wiping tears from our eyes, hand-in-hand, the real loons out on the lake pierce the afternoon tranquility with one of their haunting calls.
The End.
