My wolf is restless, but it isn’t the freedom she wants. Since I can’t open the window in here, any scent lingers in the air longer than it normally would, so Wilde’s scent hangs around me as fresh and clear as if he was just here a minute ago. He’s never far from the wolf’s awareness, and it’s driving me out of my mind. Even now, sniffing the air, I could scream with hunger. I’m wet, and my clit is painfully engorged, but no amount of rubbing takes the edge off.

I don’t know how much longer I’m supposed to suffer through this. Yet another thing nobody ever told me because, honestly, why would I ask: is it possible to die if the wolf goes long enough without being given what it wants? What if she goes wild and kills him for denying her? But then I guess he wouldn’t screw around with me like he does if that was possible.

Though who knows? Maybe it is, and he isn’t aware. It makes me think of Dexter, and his surprise when I turned the tables on him. I wouldn’t mind seeing that look of surprise on Wilde’s smug face.

Of course, that would never work. What am I thinking? The mark, the bond. I doubt the magic connecting us would let me do anything like that. Damn it. It was starting to sound like a good idea, too.

I don’t know what I’m thinking anymore. Maybe I’m going stir-crazy as well as horny enough to seriously consider murder.

I could sob with relief when the lock clicks. At least I won’t be alone for a little while. And maybe I’ll learn something this time.

That possibility goes out the window the second Wilde steps through the door. I know right away he’s in no mood for conversation. It’s the way he looks at me, the way he lifts his lip in a sneer, the sort of expression I’ve seen my whole life. Like he’s got power over me, and there’s nothing I can do about it.

“Tell me that you belong to me,” he says by way of greeting. The door closes behind him, and he leans against it, sliding his hands into his pockets. He looks mussed, like he’s been doing something physical, and the scent of his sweat is almost enough to make me swoon. My knees actually start to shake before I get a grip on myself.

“Hello to you, too,” I mutter.

“Tell me you belong to me,” he says again, enunciating carefully like that’s going to do anything to change my mind. Like, oh, gee, is that all you wanted? Sorry, you weren’t speaking clearly enough all this time.

“No. Is there another language I can say this in that will help you understand?”

“That’s the thing.” He pushes away from the door, staring at me with his head lowered slightly, his eyes blazing beneath his heavy, dark brows. “I hear you loud and clear—that is, I hear your wolf. And that’s how I know you’re lying. That’s why it doesn’t matter what you say.”

“Then why do you keep asking me to say it?”

“Because I want to hear it.” He walks slowly, one deliberate step at a time, never breaking eye contact.

“Then you’re going to be waiting a long time. Like, forever.”

He’s so close now, but I’m not going to back away. He will not win. “You can lie to yourself all you want, little wolf,” he murmurs while reaching out to caress my cheek. I shiver at the contact but remain still and silent. “You belong to me, and we both know it.”

I look him straight in the eye before giving him the same answer I’ve given him every time he’s insisted on this. “No.”

It’s like I flipped a switch. The hand that was only just caressing my cheek now grasps my throat, and before I know what’s happening, he begins to squeeze. I open my mouth to suck in a breath, but my windpipe is like a pinpoint and getting tighter all the time.

And oh, fuck me, I’m wetter than ever. I know he smells it, and I hate that he has this power over me.

But I can’t help arching my back, either, straining for his touch.

“Say the words,” he growls, his mouth so close to mine. I can almost taste him.

“No.” I don’t know why I’m saying it anymore. Am I just desperate for his touch?

His eyes move over my face. “Fine. You won’t do this the easy way? I’ll fuck them out of you.”

With a sudden shove, he throws me back onto the bed and begins to climb on with me. “No!” I slide away, crab-walking until my back hits the headboard.

And he laughs, the sound full of dark promise. “Just where I wanted you.” He lunges, slamming against me, pinning me in place. I fight and claw and kick, but I may as well be fighting the brick wall behind me for all the good it does. He’s possessed, determined, and stronger than I am.
