“Fucking pink cheeks,” he says, almost under his breath, shaking his head. What does that mean? Once I have the bag of my ice cream, I say thank you, and when I turn to walk out, Owen follows me. The first part of the walk is quiet but comfortable, but I guess he doesn’t like it. “So how is that new faucet working out?”

“It is great. It doesn’t leak which is the important part.” My landlord is a bit of a prick, so when I told him my faucet was leaking, he shrugged his shoulders and didn’t fix it. Finally, I said forget it and paid for it myself.

“That’s great. Oh, I got in that part for your pipes,” he says so nonchalantly and with no innuendo, but all I hear is sex. God, am I that horny?

“Oh thank you. When do you need to install it?”

“Right now,” I hear him grumble. At least, that is what I think he said, and once again, I hear nothing but naked promises. I have got to get a grip. I can’t stop blushing, but I try. We make it to my door, and I turn and try to use a non-sexual voice.

“Well, thank you for walking me home, Owen. I appreciate it.” Both of his knuckles lean against the wall as he cages me in. I swear he is going to kiss me, but he simply smiles.

“It’s my pleasure,” he whispers. I squeeze my legs together, watching him walk away.

“Lord, I hope so,” I say to myself before walking inside. I have to lean against the door to calm my raging hormones. Not that it works.

CHAPTER

TWO

OWEN

My obsession with June Carter is… unhealthy, to say the least. She’s the kind of girl that doesn’t know just how fucking beautiful she is, and all I want to do is tell her. Every day for the rest of my life. I can’t really begin my day until I’m sure she’s gotten on the bus to head into DC. I am so far beyond crazy for the girl; she doesn’t even know it.

I’ve led a pretty normal life. I was born and raised in Occoquan, Virginia. My parents, Bud and Grace, own a hardware store in town. I also have an older brother, Buck, who lives in town. He works in construction and helps out at the store when he can. He’s married to his high school sweetheart, Gina. They have five kids and counting. I also have a younger sister, Olivia. It’s through Olivia that I met June. They became friends, and my obsession began.

When I returned from the Army after my final tour, I wasn’t sure what I wanted in life. I came home to help Dad out in the store after he had a mild heart attack. The store was my first job, and it’ll be my last. I love the work and helping people. I also offer some handyman services, but I offer them free of charge to June.

I’m not ashamed, though I probably should be to admit that I did what I had to do to get into her space. I ensured her landlord wouldn’t repair everything in her place—with my fists. I made it very clear to the man that she was mine. Was it wrong? Yes. Would I do it again? In a fucking heartbeat.

She’s been coming into the store to get little things to fix stuff up, and I offered to help her. Tonight, when I walked her home, I should have kissed her. I could tell she wanted me to, but I knew that once I started her, I wouldn’t be able to stop.

I watched as she clenched her thighs. I dream about those wrapped around my head as I taste what is surely heaven. She’s pretty much all I think about. I can’t take it anymore. I am about to do whatever it takes to make her mine.

I’m not above any means necessary.

CHAPTER

THREE

JUNE

Early mornings are the worst, mostly because I am not a morning person and never have time for breakfast, let alone a cup of coffee. With my purse and heels in my bag, I make my way to the bus stop only to be surprised by Owen standing there with a bag and a coffee in his hand.

“Good morning.” I say, not sure what else to say.

“Good morning, beautiful. I thought you could use this.” He hands me the bag, and I distinctly smell Gussy’s chicken sausage breakfast sandwich.

“Oh my gosh. How did you know?” I ask him, sipping the coffee and moaning. I don’t realize I am doing it until he groans and closes his eyes before looking back at me, heat emitting from him.

“I notice everything about you, June.” There are butterflies in my belly and a warm feeling in my tummy. Not sure what to say, I blush and drop my head. “Hey, give me your eyes.” I look up at him and smile. “There she is,” he says, moving my hair behind my ear. “Will you tell me something no one knows about you?” His question surprises me, and I lick my lips, trying to compose myself. No one has ever asked me that before.
