“Get away from me.”

‘That mouth is what got your ass in trouble in the first place, keep that shit up.” To add insult to injury I jumped off the bed and headed to the bathroom for a towel to clean her up.

“Now take your ass to sleep.” If looks could kill she’d have buried my ass a long time ago, I wasn’t even worried. Just to fuck with her I kissed her cheek before leaving the room.

“Sleep tight.” She threw a pillow at my ass because she always have to get the last word in. I did my usual nightly walk through and head counting, ending back at Cody’s room.

I pulled the little blanket up over his butt and brushed my boy’s hair before leaving the room, leaving the door half open so I could hear him. Like the hundred and one monitors his mother has planted around the house aren’t enough.

I headed back to my study to finally get down to business. I wasn’t in there five minutes before the phone rang. “What’s up Jared?”

“We’ve got a problem.”

“What kinda problem?” Damn, when it rains it pours in this bitch.

“I guess you’ve heard about the little girl that was found raped and murdered. Well another child went missing, only problem, our boy was picked up for the first one and was behind bars at the time of.”

“What the fuck are you saying? There are two of them?”

“Looks like. I’ve got some shit you need to look at. There might be a connection.”

“Okay send me all you’ve got.”

What the fuck is going on? I waited for the email from Jared and took my time reading over what he sent. I didn’t like the picture that was unfolding before my eyes.

I can’t for the life of me figure out why these assholes won’t keep their shit outta my backyard and away from my wife and kids.

Somebody ought to take out an ad warning their dumb asses to steer clear of all surrounding states, because if they get too close there’s a good chance I’m coming for their ass.

I have no tolerance and no give when it comes to this sick shit. And since getting tangled up with the

SEALs and the others and learning that this shit is even worse than I ever thought, my trigger finger stays poised.

My kids have every fucking right to live in peace without worrying about these evil fucks lurking around. It’s my job to make sure they get that shit.

Fuck the law and their tied hands bullshit. It’s their job to protect the criminals, it’s mine to protect my own.

Chapter 12

I could hardly sleep that night, my mind wouldn’t let me rest. And maybe that’s what saved me from my wife’s wrath the next morning.

Instead of reaming my ass for leaving her high and dry over the breakfast table, she picked up on the fact that something was bothering me.

She reached over and squeezed my hand but instead of giving word to her thoughts just gave me a questioning look.

I shook my head and indicated the kids who were trying to out talk each other. “Caitlin put it away.” Her hand disappeared lightning fast beneath the table.

“I was just saying good morning daddy.” She’s trying to get this kid killed. I seriously tried to find justification for five solid seconds but the little shit hadn’t done anything worthy of a gutting. Other than robbing me of my daughter.

“Not at the table.” She’s so much her mother’s kid she left her chair and came around the table to

wrap her arms around my neck. “I’m finished with my breakfast so can I be excused from the table?”

“Sure, go ahead.” I only said that shit because her mother was squeezing the life out of my hand. “She’s gone you can let go now. Mengele don’t start.”

I saw her gearing up to start some shit like I asked her ass to co-parent. I was getting antsy to head out to take care of shit but I didn’t want to tip Kat’s nosy ass off.

I made my escape with the kids when they were heading out the door. I made sure the crew knew I was leaving a little early so they needed to have eyes on my house and jetted.

I called Jared and Tommy on the way to meet me at the shop for a little meet. The information Jared had forwarded needed immediate action.

From the way he’d connected the dots through our network it looked like we had two players in the game. Our local boy had met someone just as twisted as him on the inside and the two were working in tandem in my backyard. Like fuck!

I wouldn’t even ask how my people were able to

come up with this shit when the local yahoos with badges hadn’t, but I’m not too interested either way.
