Donnie lowered me carefully until I was flat on my back.

“You comfortable, sweetheart?”

I nodded, my body cradled on the firm mattress with the pillow top protector. I had a body pillow wrapped around my back, creating a lounge chair effect. It had been Donnie’s idea and it worked. It took the stress off my lower back.

That alone was almost as good as sex.

Almost.

“Let’s get these panties off of you.”

Donnie’s fingers traced my pussy through the cotton of my enormous pregnancy panties. There was nothing sexy about those panties, but Donnie never made me feel self conscious about it. I whimpered at the feeling of his finger tips caressing my mound. Pregnancy made your pussy extra sensitive. It was one of the perks.

Other than the point: having a whole, sweet healthy baby at the end of it. If we were lucky. I never took anything for granted. I had dreams for my child like every other expectant mother. But I didn’t dwell on them. In fact, I tried not to think about the outcome one way or the other.

I tried to just be.

Donnie helped a lot with that.

He slid my panties down my legs, kissing my skin as he did. My legs were the only part of my body that looked about the same during pregnancy. Yeah, they got swollen if I stood for too long but that was it.

The rest of me was pretty much a circle. Yes, I was a large melon with skinny legs poking out of it. And other melons up top. My husband, God love him, didn’t seem to mind.

“Hmmm…” he murmured as he settled between my thighs and pressed his lips against me.

“Oh…” I sighed, as his long, pointy tongue started to slowly and thoroughly explore my pussy. “That’s so nice…”

“Hmmm… nice?” He chuckled to himself and moved to my clit, flicking his tongue against it rapidly. “I think we can do better than nice.”

My back arched off the bed as I started to come for the first time. I shuddered as he slipped two fingers inside me and hooked them, scraping my G–spot. My orgasm doubled down and I screamed. Donnie didn’t stop for a long time. He wrung every moment, every millisecond of pleasure out of me with his fingers and tongue, forcing me to multiple orgasms. He didn’t slow until I was limp and trembling on the bed.

“How do you feel, wife?”

I tried to say ‘good’ but it came out ‘hmmmoood.’

He chuckled and kissed my forehead. I barely felt it as he pulled covers over me and pulled the curtains shut.

“Sleep well, sweetheart.”

Chapter 30

Kirsten

I sat at the kitchen table, staring at the maps in front of me. I wanted to draw on them, but they weren’t mine. So I was writing down potential routes on a yellow legal pad instead. Jacey could read them out to me. We were going up the coast, I decided. It was tempting to go East, but I didn’t want to get stuck out in the desert if anything went wrong.

Plus, Vegas was a little too close for comfort. Sal had connections in Vegas. Lots of them.

Lucky was outside on the phone, pacing back and forth on the deck. I was trying not to be intrusive but he looked agitated. Then he did something unexpected.

He smiled.

I looked back at the map. We needed a place that was out of the way. Green, like this. It would be best to be near to a couple of exit routes. If the Margarellis decided to come after me, the only thing I could do was run.

The image of Sal’s face leering at me rose along with the bile in my throat. His hands on me, one touching my body, the other tightening on my throat. Then the look of stupid surprise as my shoe plunged into his temple. He hadn’t died instantly. There had been a moment of awful recognition, his eyes almost pleading with me to undo what I had just done.

God help me, I’d wanted to. Even if he hurt me. I hadn’t wanted his blood on my hands.

But some things could not be undone.

Sal’s blood was on my hands.

I rubbed my sweaty palms on my jean clad thighs but it didn’t undo the feeling.

My breath was coming fast and shallow. I shook my head, as if I could shake away the pictures, sensations and sounds. They were relentless once they started. Sometimes just a flash. A moment. But then they would cascade until I was hyperventilating and wanting to run and hide.

Green. Make it green this time.

I closed my eyes and breathed slowly in and out. I imagined a large paintbrush in my mind’s eye. I dipped it in paint and lifted it, coloring the pictures in my mind with broad strokes.

I heard the door close and footsteps approaching me.
