“Isha. What’s going on, hon?”

“I never should have dated someone I worked with. Emory and I are over over. He’s been fucking Jenny from the marketing team. They’re engaged now.

“Do you know how hard it is to walk into work and see that shit? They’re all booed up and he couldn’t commit to me to save his own life. Like, what does she have that I don’t? Why string me along to play with my feelings like this?”

“Oh, Isha. It’s his loss. Now she has to deal with that childish bullshit. Not you. You deserve way better.”

She purses her lips and shrugs. “I’m thinking about moving here to be close to my bestie. You’re all I have. I don’t want to be alone.”

I cup her face. “You will never be alone. I’m always here for you. My shit isn’t together, but I’ll do anything I can to help you out.”

She wraps her arms around my neck and holds me tight. I know things have been hard for her. She won’t tell me why, but her relationship with her mom and stepdad is strained. They bump heads so much that she doesn’t talk to them much.

I think that’s why we bonded so quickly when we met. I would love to have her here with me. I haven’t even thought about what I plan to do next.

“We’ll figure things out together,” I say as I give her a squeeze.

Bishop

I climb the stairs with a mug of tea in my hands. My vocal cords are tired from all the stacks I’ve done for the songs we recorded today. Recording an album is a lot harder than people realize.

My body is exhausted. Going from touring straight into recording is taking its toll. A smile comes to my face, knowing my wife is at the top of these stairs, resting in our bed.

I pick up the pace and start into a jog to get there faster. It feels good to have someone waiting for me. Although I was disappointed to miss dinner with her.

“Hey, baby,” I croon as I enter our room.

“Hey,” she sings back.

She’s in our bed wearing one of my shirts again. It’s one of my tank tops. Her hardened nipples are pushing at the thin fabric, bringing a grin to my face.

She has a white scarf tied around her head and a huge smile on her face. God, she looks great against my sheets, just as I knew she would. I walk over to the bed and drop a kiss on her forehead.

“Were you waiting up for me?”

She shrugs. “Aw, babe. Your voice. I was waiting up and thinking. Why don’t you get ready for bed? We can cuddle. You don’t have to talk.”

“I’m fine.” I give her a wink.

Placing my mug down, I head into my closet to change into a pair of sweats. When I return, she’s under the covers and has left my side turned back. I climb in and get settled with my back against the headboard, then I finish my tea as Saga snuggles into my side.

“How was your day? Did you have fun with Isha?” I ask.

“I love having her here. We had fun. She helped me get my stuff unpacked and kept my mind off things. Seriously, Bishop. You should rest your voice, baby.”

I lean to peck her lips. “I wouldn’t miss this chance to spend time with my wife and ask about her day. I missed you, baby. You’ve been on my mind all day.”

She moves to straddle my lap and cups my face in her little palms. Pressing her forehead to mine, she’s silent as we breathe each other in for a bit.

“I love you so much. I could sit just like this for hours. No need for words,” she says after a few beats.

“I was thinking the same thing.”

“Good,” she purrs, then leans to rest her head on my shoulder.

I wrap my arms around her and hold her tightly against my chest. I can’t believe I’ll get to do this for the rest of my life. As my lids grow heavy, thoughts of how great our lives will be fill my head.

CHAPTER 34

Come On, Really?

Saga

I’m still getting used to living with Bishop. His work hours are insane, so we don’t get time together much. He promised things would slow down for a little bit once the album was fully recorded.

I feel bad when he comes up for the night and his voice is all sore and tired. Most mornings, he’s up and has disappeared down in the basement where his studio is before I get up.

Like this morning, I wake to cool sheets and I’m disappointed I didn’t wake in time to watch him get ready. I sigh and stretch in bed before getting up to shower and get ready for my day.
